    The cold war tensions created problems in the UN , also Security Council votes and disruptions of debates often kept the UN from acting decisively. This started because all of the countries in the the UN and soviet union started invading each other and not leaving until being forced to leave. The effect this lead to was that when the UN visited and their first operations in the Americas for the first time.(United Nations)

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was between Cuba, U.S, and the Soviets. During the Cuban Missile Crisis there was missiles being placed in cuba and the U.S was afraid that the Soviets might set off the missiles and cause the start of a nuclear war. This event happened because the Soviet Union’s leader had a goal of increasing his nation’s nuclear strike capability.

    The potsdam conference was a discussion of peace settlements and administration of defeated Germany. The people and countries involved was the u.s president , British prime minister , and the soviet premier. The Potsdam conference happened because they wanted to make Japan surrender and also to know everyone's role in the world and the steps they were all going to take to keep peace

  • NATO

    NATO
    the NATO was when the atomic bombs were introduced and the military grew , they also wanted to spread the capitalism and the Soviet Union created up with the warsaw pact. The NATO was for the defense of the Soviet Union the NATO had 26 members. the NATO was made to stop the spread of communism . The effect of the NATO was that the Berlin Wall fell down and Germany became reunited and the Soviet Union broke apart , so this seemed as a victory to the members of the NATO.(NATO)

    The Korean War was the beginning of the invasion of South Korea and they were invaded by North Korea . North Korea ignored the United Nations because the United Nations wanted North Korea to withdrawal their forces from South Korea. The U.S sent troops to help South Korea but North Korea armies drove back the South Korean troops and early U.S troops to the southeast tip of the Korean peninsula.

    The Vietnam War was when a group called the Viet Cong rebeled against the government and the U.S took the government’s side which is Diem who was a soviet leader , Also the soviet union took the rebellions side. This happened because the Viet Cong wanted communism in their government but Diem didn’t want communism also Diem didn’t want buddhism because he was a roman catholic and he killed hundreds of buddhists.

    The Warsaw Pact was when the Soviet Union and the Eastern Europe created and alliance and put troops and weapons in Eastern Europe . The people involved in the Warsaw Pact was the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe . The Warsaw Pact was to create a strong defensive alliance in response to the NATO central east . The effect of the Warsaw Pact was that it cause Nationalism and Hostility against the Soviet, the response was force from the Soviet.

    There was a popular uprising in Hungary in 1956,also a speech given by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev . Also since the new freedom of debate and criticism, a rising tide of unrest and discontent in Hungary broke out into active fighting. This happened because of the Joseph Stalin’s rule.

    Suez Crisis
    In the Suez Crisis egypt wanted to build a dam but the other countries didn’t want to support it because it would cut off the canal and they need the canal for trading . Britain and France threatened egypt because they were going to build the canal even though they wouldn’t help. The French and th British didn’t want the canal built because it might close the canal and cut off shipments of petroleum flowing from the Persian Gulf to western Europe.

    The Sputnik is between the U.S and the Soviet Union they both were working to develop new technology and they each launched their new technology to get ahead of one another. This happened because the U.S didn’t want communism to spread all over the world and the Soviet Union didn’t want the U.S. to be a threat to them. The effect of this was that they realized that if they used nuclear weapons that they will end up hurting themselves in return (Sputnik).

    Glasnost
    The Glasnost happened because Gorbachev who was a soviet leader launched a glasnost which is a “openness” following his introduction of perestroika a program aimed at reconstructing soviet economic and political policy. The Glasnost happened because Gorbachev believed that the opening of the political systems was the only way to overcome the soviets laws. Also he believed that the economic recovery for the soviet union needed to include individuality and freedom of expression.
