A meeting between the 3 big leaders. This meeting failed to address many of the conflicts and important things between the powers. Therefore it helped create the stage for the cold war that happen shortly after WW2 -
Atomic Bomb Hiroshima/Negasaki
The Japaneses stated that they will die before surrender. The US had them beat but had to decide whether to finish them with an army of men or with an atomic bomb. Using an army would have many US casualties, Using a bomb would have none. Finally the US agreed in using it, killing over 226,000 people. This created a new era, the era in which humans could destroy the world as we know it. The era we now live in. -
Iron Curtain
This was the metaphorical name given to the boundary of separation that was in europe during tell the end of WW2. Made to block the Soviet Union from losing more of its people to the world outside communism. -
Hungarian Revolution
Nation wide revolt against the Marxist Leninist government of the Hungarian Peoples Republic and its Soviet imposed policies. -
Truman Doctrine
American foreign policy which stated that the US would provide military, economic and political assistance to all democrats under the threat of external or internal forces. A plan meant to counter communism and the Soviet Union. -
Hollywood 10
This was an event where 10 people from Hollywood refused to answer questions regarthing their communist beliefs. They said it was violating their first amendment. The government later blacklisted these actors and nobody would hire them. These actors then later on as the years past, made a movie about this outrage. -
Marshall Plan
American aid towards Western European where the US spent more than 12 billion dollars in economic assistance to help rebuild the economy is Western Europe. The intention of this was to make Western European countries not go towards communism. -
Berlin blockade and airlift
The Soviet Union attempted to force the Allied Powers out of Berlin by blocking all its entries into West Berlin.The United States simply used air force to combat this. They started flying in supplies. -
NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created to provide collective security against the Soviet Union. The Allies would protect everyone in the treaty. -
Soviet bomb Test
Soviet Union had over 700 nuclear tests. This let the United States knowing that they were no longer the only ones with the power to finish the world. -
Korean War
Communist North Korea invaded Communist South Korea. The United States later came to aid and save South Korea. -

Series of hearings that took place by the USA to investigate conflicts accusations between the USA army and the USA Senator. -
Eisenhowers massive Retaliation plan
A massive response towards a communist state. It stated that we would use nuclear weapons against a communist state. -
Vietnam War
US wanted to stop the spread of Communism so it went to war with Vietnam. USA lost 58220 soldiers and retreated home. War was won by the Vietnamese. -
Warsaw Pact
An Alliance formed to counterbalance the NATO treaty. The Warsaw Pact supplied the countries who would go into the pact would get governmental and political help from the Soviet Union and the rest of the pact members. -
U2 Incident
CIA pilot Francis Gary Powers is on a secret mission flying and taking photos in a denied territory. The Soviet Union shots down his U2 spy plane. International diplomacy blows up. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
1500 Cuban exiles trained and financed by the CIA launched an ill fated invasion of Cuba from the sea in the Bay of Pigs. The plan was to overthrow Fidel Castro and his revolution. -

A wall made to encircle West Berlins people from leaving the communist ideals. -
Khruschev takes Over
Initiated the Cuban missile crisis by placing nuclear weapons 90 miles from Florida, Cuba. -
Cuban Missil Crisis
Soviet Union wanted to strengthened ties between Cuba communist leader Fidel Castro by sending him nuclear weapons in order for them to be safe from the US. The US saw this as a threat because Cuba is only 90 miles from Florida. This was probably the closest USA and the Soviet Union came to nuclear war. -

Period of improved relationships between the Soviet Union and the USA. Trade was increased and SALT treaties began. -

Strategy orchestrated and implemented by the USA to overwhelm the global influences of the Soviet Union in attempt to end the cold war. -

One of the most famous Cold War speeches in which president Ronald Reagan challenges Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to break down the Berlin wall. 2 years later, it was broken down. -

Starting at midnight citizens from both parts of the country were able to cross borders.
