  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    Marshall Plan reduced the influence and power of Communist parties in Western Europe. But because the United States had helped European nations, the USA had an advantage. This angered the Soviet Union and was seen as another anti-communist move by the USA, following the Truman Doctrine
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    June 1948 the U.S and Britain proposed to creating a new currency, the Deutschmark. This caused economical chaos, the Soviet Union were already struggling with the system of currency.
  • NATO

    NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation formed with member states Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Primary purpose was to unify and strengthen the Western Allies' military response to a possible invasion of western Europe by the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies.

    U.S wins its first battle of containment against the Soviet union. It was the U.S first chance to fight communism backed by the Soviets.
  • Death Of Stalin

    Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union from the 1920s until his death in 1953. This means that he was the center of power in the USSR during the years in which the Cold War was beginning. His attitudes towards the West and towards Eastern Europe helped to bring about the Cold War.
  • Geneva Accords

    This set of documents ended the French war with the Vietminh and divided Vietnam into North and South states. The communist leader of North Vietnam was Ho Chi Minh while the US friendly south was led by Ngo Dinh Diem.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact came to be seen as quite a potential militaristic threat, as a sign of Communist dominance, and a definite opponent to American capitalism. The signing of the pact became a symbol of Soviet dominance in Eastern Europe.

    U.S and Soviet Union helped the opposing sides. Ho Chi Minh of North Vietnam decided to be a communist country, he pressed for action against the South, his dream was to reunite one country. Soviets backed up the communist, which were using proxy war, so they weren't directly fighting the U.S. The U.S made little progress

    NPT was a treaty of preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. Both the U.S and the Soviet Union agreed not to use nuclear weapons.
  • Berlin Wall Falls

    Berlin Wall Falls
    spokesman for East Berlin’s Communist Party announced a change in his city’s relations with the West. he said, citizens of the GDR were free to cross the country’s borders.The wall ceased to function from that day forward, and people were soon chipping away at it, eventually knocking it down. The Berlin Wall was a symbol throughout the whole cold war, so the fall of it symbolized the end of the Cold War.
