    It was a war between the North (supported by Soviet Union and China) and the South (supported by United States). It was expected that the anti-communist side would win. But more than 3 million people including 58,000 American troops were killed. America Many Americans opposed this war which led the US to withdrawal. The North then invades and unifies Vietnam into a Communist country.
  • Bay of Pigs invasion

    Bay of Pigs invasion - Castro overthrew American-backed president, General Batista out of Havana. Since then, the CIA planned an invasion in Cuba. 1,400 American trained Cubans were sent to invade. They failed because Castro’s troops outnumbered them and made them surrendered. John F. Kennedy was President during that time.
  • Vietnam War ends

  • Germany is reunited

    Germany is reunited
    For about 45 years Germany was divided into East and West Germany. The Berlin Wall separated them but then is taken down. East and West reunited with the support from other countries. The country holds an election and Helmut Kohl became the new leader. This is said to mark the ending of the Cold War.
