  • United Nations Formed

    United Nations Formed
    The United Nations was formed after the Second World War by 51 countries. This agreement helped maintain international peace and security and develop good relationships between countries. Although this was a good benefit to the countries, the action causes a wide variety of issues in the countries and outside of the United Nations. The organization works on disaster relief, counter-terrorism, promoting democracy, human right, and gender equality.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was introduced to provide money for countries to build back up after World War II. Specifically, this agreement gave $400 million in military and economic assistance to Greece and Turkey. This money was given to these countries so that they wouldn't side with the Soviets. The doctrine helped guide the US foreign policy around the world for the following 40 years. President Truman caused these countries to be involved in the Cold War.
  • Hollywood 10

    Hollywood 10
    Hollywood 10 included 10 motion-picture producers, directors, and screenwriters who protested at the House Un-American Activities Committee and refused to answer questions regarding their communist affiliations. Many were fined and arrested as a result of their actions. These actions caused the first systematic Hollywood blacklist to be instituted. This action continued to cause the anticommunism crusade to continue for many years.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was signed by President Truman in the Economic Recovery Act of 1947. This Plan proposed that the United States were to provide economic assistance in Europe to countries and people that were in need after the wreck of World War 2. In the end, $13.6 billion was used in this plan to help many countries. By 1950, the participating countries had returned or exceeded their prewar production levels and helped stop communism in the US.
  • NATO Formed

    NATO Formed
    The founding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was presented along with the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty, which was also known as the Washington Treaty. The purpose of this organization was to secure peace in Europe and promote cooperation among its leaders while guarding their freedom. While this organization was being introduced, the US was under the threat from the Soviet Union in particular. In conclusion, this treaty was signed by European and North American countries.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War was fought between North Korea and South Korea. On June 25th, North Korea invaded South Korea and caused border rebellions in South Korea. North Korea started its attack on South Korea first because they were supported by China and the Soviet Union. On the other hand, South Korea was supported by the United States and other allied countries. The war ended because of a general agreement between the countries on July 27th, 1953.

    U.S. Offices Enters Vietnam War
    Shortly after World War II, the United States began its involvement in the Vietnam War. During Lyndon Johnson's presidency, the United States sent 548,000 troops into Vietnam and had already lost 30,000 Americans from previous individual invaders. The first American combat troops arrived at the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade along China Beach. The Unites States reason for involvement was because they were afraid that communism would spread to South Vietnam and to the rest of Asia.
  • Space Race/Sputnik

    Space Race/Sputnik
    Sputnik and the Space Race was the world's first artificial satellite that was launched by the Soviet Union and marked the start of the US-USSR space race and the space age. This, ultimately, lead to the creation of NASA. This launch was the first successful satellite launch and gained momentum when the USSR sent the first human into space with an orbital flight in 1961. The United States feared that its military was not underdeveloped compared to that of the Soviets.
  • Bay Of Pigs

    Bay Of Pigs
    The Bay of Pigs is described as 1,400 Cuban exiles being laughed at a botched invasion on the south coast of Cuba. During the battle, there was a failed attack by the CIA during the Kennedy administration to push the Cuban leader out of power. The Bay of Pigs is famous for the overthrowing of the Cuban dictator. Because of the United States' foreign policy failure, the Cuban Government solidified their victory and widened the political division between the two formal allied countries.
  • Berlin Wall Goes Up

    Berlin Wall Goes Up
    The Berlin Wall was built by the German Democratic Republic during the Cold War. The making of this wall was to prevent the population of people from escaping to Soviet-controlled East Berlina and West Berlin. Along with that, the wall was a major symbol of the Cold war before it fall in 1989 which ended up leading to the end of the war. In conclusion, the Berlin Wall and NATO provided stability and continuity. As a result, the Soviet Union collapsed a year later.
  • Soviets Invade Afghanistan

    Soviets Invade Afghanistan
    The Soviet Union intervened to support the Afghan communist government in its conflict with anti-communist Muslim guerrillas during the Afghan War and remained in Afghanistan until February 1989. During this invasion, the Soviets organized a military airlift into Kabul. This included almost 280 transport aircraft and almost 8,500 men. Almost 15,000 Soviet troops were killed during this Afghanistan invasion.
  • Berlin Wall Comes Down

    Berlin Wall Comes Down
    The Berlin Wall was taken down 5 days after 1/2 million people gathered in East Berlin to protest with the Berlin Wall dividing the communist from East Germany and West Germany. East German leaders tried to calm protests by loosening the borders and making it easier for East Germans to travel. The taking down of the wall was a pivotal moment in the Cold War and in the history of modern Europe. Along with mass protests, there were political reforms and pressures between both sides of the wall.
