Marshall Plan
The USA wanted to rebuild Europe from the effects of WWII, and spent billions to rebuild it, but it was not enough. On a belief that Communism spread in unstable countries, the plan offered $13 B to all Europe nations to help modernize industry. Economic output increased after. It was capitalism victory, by helping other capitalism countries to recover and help USA. No nuclear weapons and wanted to help containment by helping Europe countries by giving them money and to not fall to communism. -
Berlin Blockade & Airlift
When the USA, France, Britain and USSR divided Berlin into zones, and USA, France, and Britain wanted to combine their zones, USSR made a blockade around Berlin because it seemed like a threat to communism. The USA and Britain allowed the Berlin Airlift and gave supplies, food and fuel by airdrops in Berlin, USSR stopped the blockade. USA wanted to contain spread of communism inside Berlin and help the people not take USSR rule. It was a capitalism victory and there were nuclear weapons used. -

Division of Germany
Since Germany lost WWII, their land was taken away from them in two new states. The USA, Great Britain and France combined their zones into a new nation called West Germany assumed as the threat USSR made their zone into East Germany, Berlin was also split into two states. It was connected to create West Germany to not be a Communist state unlike the new East Germany to contain communism. It was a victory for both sides since they both received land. There were no nuclear weapons involved. -
Chinese Revolution
With the rise of communism in Russia, Chinese wanted change in their country. The Chinese Communist Party won the Chinese Revolution against the Chinese Nationalist Party. Mao Zedong wanted to create China like USSR with a five year plan and nationalization of industries. Zedong organized the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward in China. It was a victory with no nuclear weapons and the containment did not work when China underwent a communist change in their government. -
Korean War
North Korea helped by the USSR was communist and South Korea helped by the USA was not. North Korea wanted to spread communism to South Korea. Douglas MacArthur helped led the UN forces in South Korea and the USSR gave North Korea only money, but China helped with troops. Many died in the four year war and North and South Korea were still divided. No nuclear weapons and no victory for either side. UN and USA was trying to contain Communism in one area to stop for spreading like in Korea. -

Cuban Revolution
A revolution occurred in Cuba due to corruption of the government and USA influence. Fidel Castro and other revolutionaries overthrew Fulgencio Batista and his government. Castro wanted to nationalize industry and cut off American relationships with a communist government. This was connected to containment because the USA did not want communism ideas to start revolutions and it was close to the USA border. It was a communist victory with no nuclear weaponry. -

Formation of the Soviet Bloc
New military alliances wanted protection from other countries in the Cold War. First the NATO alliance was made up of USSR enemies and they made the Warsaw Pact that combined other communist countries in an alliance, like USSR, Hungary and East Europe countries. Also called the Communist Bloc, it was a win for Communism. There were no nuclear weapons involved and the introduction of the Communist Bloc helped communism spread which it was against the Containment Theory. -
Vietnam War
From communist takeover in North Vietnam, the USA sent military to South Vietnam to prevent it from communism. Many were against South Vietnam leader, Ngo Dinh Diem, so many did not like USA influence. North Vietnam leader Ho Chi Minh gathered nationalist support along with help from Viet Cong and helped win the war and takeover South Vietnam when USA left. A win for communism spread with no nuclear weapons use. USA helped South Vietnam due to containment which failed after the end of the war. -

Hungarian Revolution
USSR owned Hungary as a satellite state and Hungarians did not like it. Hungarian protesters wanted Imre Nagy to developed freedom and rid from USSR control. Nagy announced Hungary's neutrality and withdrawal from Pact. USSR captured Nagy and took back control of Hungary because of the resistance against communism. No nuclear weaponry and helped the containment theory, but a win for capitalism, because it shows people are against communism ways in some areas near USSR. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
Since Cuba became a communist country and wanted to distance itself from USA, Cuba accepted aid from USSR to help spread communism. JFK was concerned and helped a group of Cuban exiles invade Cuba against Castro's rule. It did not work and Cuba- USSR alliance was stronger. Connected to contain Communism only in the USSR and not make it strong in Cuba, but it was a Communist win and no nuclear weapons issue. -
Building of the Berlin Wall
From the split of Berlin, many East Germans were started to flee to West Germany due to dislike of communism and their ways. USSR was upset with this and decided to built a cement wall splitting the parts of Berlin. People were killed who wanted to escape East Germany. This was a win for communism building a wall to keep more people in East Germany, but also a win for capitalism that gained more popularity. There were no nuclear weapons and helped contain communism only in the East Germany area. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
From the Bay of Pigs, the USSR and Cuba alliance led to the deployment of nuclear missiles to Cuba to scare the USA. Also the USA sent missiles to Turkey to scare USSR. Kennedy wanted to quarantine Cuban waters to not allow missiles to over reach there. The missiles were never sent to Cuba, so this was a win for capitalism and this helped the containment theory to not communism. Many nuclear weapons were the issue because it could lead to the demise of USA and USSR. -
Prague Spring
Czechoslovakia was a satellite state of USSR and had development in USSR. The people wanted reform and Dubcek of the communist party increased freedoms of speech/press and wanted to change the political system. USSR thought the movement was too independent which led to USSR crushed by invasion and the Brezhnev Doctrine. This was a win for communism to keep nations in the Warsaw pact and in communist governments. No nuclear weaponry and connected to containing communism in East Europe. -

Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
This started from the USSR invasion to help the Afghan Communist party complete a coup. This led to the end of detente and the USA stopped selling grain to USSR and sent weapons to Afghanistan who were rebelling against USSR. This was connected to the containment theory to stop spread of communism outside USSR. This was a win for capitalism after the Afghans resisted against USSR helped and won the war/invasion and nuclear weapons were an issue after since the USA had them pointed at USSR. -

Tiananmen Square Massacre
From Communist China's change in leaders to Xiaoping and his new reforms many thought this would create for freedoms for the people. There was a large peaceful student demonstration in Beijing that was met but guns and tanks to break it up. Many deaths which shows weakness in communist countries. This was not connected to the Containment theory just people who wanted change in China. This was a win for communism, but showed the world how people were against it with no nuclear weapons.
