    Bay of Pigs invasion

    Cuban Missile Crisis

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy and Khrushchev stood on the edge of a nuclear war and then slowly back away. After the Cuban Missile Crisis the U.S., Great Britain, and the Soviet Union signed the nuclear test ban treaty.

    SALT I and SALT II

    Talks between U.S.S.R. and the U.S.. November of 1969 Nixon met with secretary of soviets. Negotiations lasted until January 1972. Negotiation of SALT I was finalized May 26th of 1972. Late 1972 negotiations began on SALT II. This went on for seven years. The treaty was signed June 18tyh 1979. SALT II was sent to the senate to be ratified, but due to tensions between the two countries, Carter pushed the treaty aside.
