United Nations founded
A government organization to promote international co-operation. Founded after the cold war in October 24, 1945. It had representatives from 26 nations to pledge that there governments would fight together against Axis Powers. -
Cold War Starts
The Cold War started after WWII and was between the capitalist and the USSR. The United States were trying to contain the spread of communism. -
Marshall Plan
A program to help aid the Western Europe after WWII. The plan was in operation for 4 years. The United States gave over 12 billion dollars to Western Europe. -
Berlin Blockade
The Western Allies canals, railways, and roads we being blocked by the Soviet Union. This was blocking the Western Control from helping Berlin. -
Berlin Airlift Stops
The Soviet Union was blocking Berlin from the Western Control so the U.S. created the Berlin Airlift which was the United states bringing supplies like food and medical aid to Berlin. -
Soviet Union Test Atomic Bomb
After the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima the Soviets started working on there nuclear weapon. The U.S. thought it was going to be a long time before the Soviets would be able to make one. But in September 3, 1949 U.S. scientist discovered activity in the Soviet Union that was a result of an under ground nuclear testing. -
Truman Fiers MacAuthur
President Truman relieved General MacArthur from his command after MacArthur made a public statement that went against the administrations policies. -
Hydrogen Bomb Explodes in the Pacific
The Hydrogen bomb was first detonated in 1952 by the U.S. The bomb was dropped over Bikini Atoll by a B-52 Bomber this bomb explosion is over 15,000 feet high. -
Stalin Dies
Joseph Stalin died at the age at 73 years old from a cerebral hemorrhage. Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union. -
Cease-Fire in Korean War
On this day in 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were thought to pass U.S. atomic secrets to the Soviets, are executed at Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, New York. Both refused to admit any wrongdoing and their innocence up to the time of their deaths by the electric chair. -
Warsaw Pact Formed
The Warsaw pact was sighed in Warsaw giving it its name. The Warsaw Pact included the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria as members. It set up a unified military command under Marshal Ivan S. Konev of the Soviet Union. -
Rebellion in Hungary
Hungary in 1956 seemed to sum up all that the Cold War stood for. The people of Hungary and the rest of Eastern Europe were ruled over with a rod of iron by Communist Russia and anybody who challenged the rule of Stalin and Russia paid the price. -
Sputnik Launched
The Sputnik was a satellite built the Soviet Union the size of a beach ball. This was the first artificial satellite to be launched into space. -
NASA Created
NASA was pushed to form after the launch of the Sputnik. With this simple preamble, the Congress and the President of the United States created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. -
Cuban Revolution
The Cuban Revolution was an armed revolt by Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement and its allies against the government of Cuban President Fulgencio Batista. This revolution changed the relationship between them and the U.S. -
U-2 Incedent
The U-2 indecent was when a spy plane by the United States was shot down while flying over the Soviet Union Airspace. This was during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was an unsuccessful attempt by the CIA to invade Cuba and push Castro from power. This was pretty bad because the United States were out numbered and surrendered less then 24 hours. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin was was made to keep communist contained in Eastern Germany. This Greatly Effected the people inside the wall that weren't communist. If anybody tried to escape they would be shot on sight be border patrol. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was when the Soviets were bringing nuclear weapons to Cuba meaning that there was going to weapons of mass destruction less then 90 miles from the Coast of the U.S. This was a big deal because the U.S. was in a great danger of being nuked which would have ended up in MAD war, lucky the weapons were returned. -
US and USSR establish Hotline
The US and the USSR made a direct hotline to each other so they can direct communication so that tension would be reduced between the two countries. This hotline is to prevent incidents like the Cuban Missile Crisis from happening again.
