The 2nd red scare was the American fear of communism rising in the US. It caused hysteria among Americans especially after public figures being acussed and after true soviet spies were investigated. -

A group of artists, poets, and actors who were involved in a literary movement explored and influenced American culture and politics after WWII. -

The belief that countries around USSR would pick up after their communist party, but the US was trying to prevent the spread of communism. -
Korean War
Invasion of S.Korea by N.Korea, which made Truman declare war on N.Korea to assist S.Korea during the war. It is an important event because it divided a country into two because of communism. The division line is known as the 38th parallel. -
Warsaw Pact
The pact was made between East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union which balanced out NATO to expand military forces. -
Suez Crisis
Was caused by Israeli armed forces pushing towards Egypt and the canal after Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized the canal. -

U-2 Spy incident
An American spy who was spying on the USSR shot a Soviet leader and was captured, his name was Francis Gary Powers. His capture caused Eisenhower to admit that he had CIA agents spying on USSR for years. -
Berlin Wall
Communist gov't of German Democratic Republic built a barbed wire and concrete wall between East and West Berlin to keep Western facsists out and keep them from influencing easterners into different political and social ideas. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
CIA Cuban exiles attempted to invade Cuba and overthrow the Communist government of Fidel Castro but they failed. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
A confrontation between the US and USSR about missiles that were being built in Cuba. This caused the leaders of the US to brainstorm solutions to avoid any outcome of war but get rid of danger at the same time.
