After WW2 ended, the United Nations was formed to promote international peace. This agreement listed 51 countries and now has 193 fighting for human rights and security overall. -

After WW2, the president of the united states, Truman asked permission to give Greece and Turkey economical and military assistance. This money was around $400 million dollars invested in Greece and Turkey flipping to the communist side. -
Hollywood 10
During the red scare era (being the initial wave of communism takeover during the early Cold War years), a group of 10 Hollywood men involved with film refused to testify for an anti-communism committee hearing. In 1947, congress held the famous Hollywood 10 in contempt. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was named according to the president, he believed europe needed assistance with post war help. The Marshall Plan was an economic recovery act intended to raise europe's spirits. -
NATO Formed
The (N)orth (A)tlantic (T)reaty (O)rganization was created for security between 30 countries of North America and Europe. This showed europeans that the americans would have a presence in europe while also keeping the soviets at bay. -
Korean War
After many years of continuous tension between the two, North and South Korea finally went to war. The United States came in with aid on South Korea's side because North Korea was communist. The Korean War ended with an armistice signed by the US, the people's republic of China, South Korea and North Korea. -

This race was a test between the soviets and the United States to determine who possessed the highest intellectual and technological knowledge. US officially enters Vietnam War
The United States entered the Vietnam War to train the army of the republic of Vietnam. Nervous of communism spreading, the United States provided aid to the South Vietnamese economically, and with their larger military. -
Sputnik
To everyone's surprise at the time, the soviets were successful in launching the first satellite into the unknown atmosphere. The satellite Sputnik was the first to successfully orbit the Earth. -
Bay of Pigs
On Cuba's southwestern coast, Kenedy and the United States CIA attempted to release Fidel Castro from power. This mission was executed by Cuban exiles trained by the CIA in Guatemala. -
Berlin Wall Goes Up
To stop Germans from flooding into West Berlin from the East, Eastern soldiers put up the wall of berlin. Another reason the wall was put up was to keep out the westerners who could potentially ruin Germany's socialist state. -
Soviets Invade Afghanistan
The invasion of Afghanistan was to support the local soviet government. The soviets inevitably lost against Afghanistan who had the United States and their weaponry aid on their side. -
Berlin Wall Comes Down
The masses of Eastern Germans had finally fought hard enough to cross to the non-communist side and the government allowed for the wall to be dismantled during the night.
