Sputnik

U-2
occurred during the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower and during the leadership of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, when a US U-2 spy plane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union. The US gov. at first denied the plane's purpose and mission, but then was forced to admit its role as a surveillance aircraft when the Soviet government produced its intact remains and surviving pilot. -

The CIA sponsored American attack of the Cuban government in order to overthrow Castro. It was a plan to execute as US was not in war with Cuba then. Cuba had already approached the UN with the facts about the US training mercenaries for this planned invasion. -

Castro became a communist, and asked the USRR started building missile bases on Cuba, and 114 ships began carrying missiles to island. This put USA within the range of Soviet missiles. -

The Shah turned to the United States for help and support. The U.S sent in some military troops anyway to help stabilize Iran. Iran was ruling off of America's military and financial support.
