SOVIET UNION TESTS THEIR FIRST ATOMIC BOMB
On August 29, 1949 the Soviet Union tested its first atomic bomb. When the bomb went off, the U.S. was very surprised because they weren’t expecting the Soviet Union to have this technology at this time.

The U.S. trained a group of 1,400 Cuban exiles to invade Cuba and start an uprising against Fidel Castro because Castro was against all of the American involvement in Cuba.
