Berlin Blockade / Airlift
The United States flew things to give aid to the people in West berlin whenever the Soviet Union blockaded them. The goal of the blockade was that the allies would abandon west Berlin. -
Koeran War
The Korean war was fought between North and South Korea. China was fighitng with the North and We were fighting, through the united nation, with the South. The North was supported by China, but also had help from the Soviet Union. After pushing the North/South border back and forth, the final outcome of the war was that no one gained or lost much land at all. -
Vietnam War
This war was between North Veitnam and South Vietnam. The North was supported by China and the Soviet Union. The South had support from the United States, the Philippines, and other countries that didn't support the spread of Communism. The United States left the war before it was completely over. -
Sputnik
Sputnik was the name of the first satellite launched into space. It was launched by the Soviet Union. It was a metal sphere with four radio antennae on it to broadcast what was happening in space. This is what helped to begin the Space Race. -
Bay of Pigs
This happens on the bay of Cuba. They trained the native people there to be ready when the attacks came from the US. Whenever the attacks came the US basically messed up from the beginning and this event became known as the "perfect failure." -
Creation of the Berlin Wall
People from East Germen were going to the West side because of the democratic government. In order to stop this the Communist on the East side built the Berlin wall so that the people couldn't flee the East sside of Berlin. I completely surronded the border and was put up overnight; -
Cuban Missile Crisis
This crisis took place over 13 days. The conflict was between the Soviet Union and the United States. Some consider this to be one of the "hottest" moments in the Cold War. The crisis was about nuclear bombs and the result of the bay of pigs. -
Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
The war in Afghanistan helped to get rid of a lot of the Soviet soldiers. After a while of this happening their leader took the last group of soldiers out in February of 1989. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
As the Cold War was ending, the East governemnt decided that the wall could be torn down. There were lots of celebrations and joinings of families. -
Gorbachev's Reforms (Perestroika/Glasnost)
The President of German made a policy of openess to reform. Perestroika was the political movement for reformation in the communist part of the Soviet Union.
