Indonesian gaining Independence
The Indonesian National Revolution was an armed conflict and diplomatic struggle between Indonesia and the Dutch Empire, and an internal social revolution. It took place between Indonesia's declaration of independence in 1945 and the Dutch recognition of Indonesia's independence at the end of 1949. The struggle lasted for over four years and involved regular fighting with armed conflict. This marked the freedom of Indonesia, making them a free country. -
The Building of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was 87 miles long stretching the length of the city, The wall built in 1961. The wall was build out of barbed wire and concrete which made scaling the wall very difficult, which is why the wass was so effective. the walls main purpose was to divide the city into two different groups. The wall divided the country into two groups west germany and east germany. East Germany wanted to keep Western Germany which they viewed as facists from corrupting their government. -
The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Soviets placed missiles in Cuba in response to the US placing missiles in Turkey and Italy, at Cuba's request because of US attempting invasion with the Bay of Pigs which ended up failing. Publicly the Soviets agreed to dismantle the missiles and send them back to the USSR, and the US publicly declared that it would never invade Cuba without provocation. Secretly the US also agreed to remove missiles from Italy and Turkey. Once all missiles had been removed the Cuban blockade ended. -
Demolition of the Berlin Wall
The world was taken by surprise when crowds began dismantling the Berlin wall on November 9, 1989.
A barrier for almost 30 years had symbolized the Cold War division of Europe was destroyed.
A little over a year later, Gorbachev resigned and the Union of Soviet Union Republics dissolved. The signifigance of this is the Soviet Union dissipating and the beginning of the end of the Cold War.
