    The Cold War was a rivalry between the Soviet Union(USSR) and the United States(US). It lasted for decades and led both of the countries towards nuclear disaster.
  • NATO formed

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization formed. Including member states Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
  • Suez Crisis

    following being bombarded by Iraels army, Joint forces France and Britain invaded Egypt to regain control of the Suez Canal.The attack was heavily criticised by World leaders.
  • The bay of Pigs

    President John F. Kennedy approved an operation and about 1400 Cuban exiles landed on Cuba's Bay of Pigs on June 17. The entire force was either killed or captured, and Kennedy took the blame for the failed operation.
  • The Arms Race

    The Arms race first started when President Kennedy and The Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev in Vienna. The Soviet Leader came in with a combative tone and made threats to cut off the Allied access to Berlin. Just 2 months after this meeting the construction of the Berlin wall had begun. The Us then began to invent and test new missiles and added 5 new army branches. it was the beginning of a battle for power.
  • JFK assassination

    John F. Kennedy was assassinated while on a visit to Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the murder, but there has always been some speculation that he was not a lone killer.
  • USSR

    Nikita Krushchev was removed from office. His replacement was Leonid Brezhnev.
  • Boycott

    many countires including the USA boycotted the Olympics held in Moscow. This action was in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afganistan.
  • End of the Soviet union

    Russia formally excepted the end of the Soviet Union.
