    Soviet demands that the United States recognize the changed borders of the Soviet Union after the Soviet seizure of territory. August 1940, but the U.S. Government did lift the embargo in January 1941. In March of 1941, Welles warned Umansky of a future Nazi attack against the Soviet Union. Finally, during the Congressional debate concerning the passage of the Lend-Lease bill in early 1941, Roosevelt blocked attempts to exclude the Soviet Union from receiving U.S. assistance.

    A military alliance formed by the North Atlantic Treaty or the Washington Treaty of April 4th, 1949. The NATO was to counter-weight the Soviet Army's reign on Eastern Europe and Central Europe after WW2.

    This set of documents ended the French war with the Vietminh and divided Vietnam into North and South states. The communist leader of North Vietnam was Ho Chi Minh while the US friendly south was led by Ngo Dinh Diem.

    The treaty established a mutual defense organization composed of the Soviet Union's "layers". Unified military force over Russia and was maintained by the Soviet Union's military units. The agreement among the Western powers admitting West Germany to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The Warsaw Pact was the first step in a more systematic plan to strengthen the Soviet leaders Nikita Khrushchev and Nikolay Bulganin after their assumption of power early in 1955.
  • Suez Crisis

    Suez Crisis
    Following military bombardment by Israeli forces, a joint British and French force invaded Egypt to regain control of the Suez Canal which had been nationalized by the Egyptian leader Nasser. The attack was heavily criticized by World leaders, especially America because Russia had offered support to Egypt. The British and French were forced to withdraw and a UN peace keeping force was sent to establish order.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    Hungarian protest against Communist rule in Budapest. The tanks withdrew on 28th October and a new government was formed which quickly moved to introduce democracy, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion. The Soviet tanks returned on 4th November encircling Budapest. The Prime Minister Imre Nagy made a World broadcast that Hungary was under attack from the Soviet Union and calling for aid. Hungary fell to Russia on 10th November 1956.

    1961 Bay Of Pigs
    The Bay Of Pigs invasion refers to the CIA sponsored American attack of the Cuban government in order to overthrow Fidel Castro. It was a tricky plan to execute as US was not in war with Cuba then. Though the US planned to appear “not being involved” in this attack and declared about their non-intention to intervene in Cuban affairs, Cuba had already approached the UN with the facts about the US training mercenaries for this planned invasion.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. The United States armed forces were at their highest state of readiness ever and Soviet field commanders in Cuba were prepared to use battlefield nuclear weapons to defend the island if it was invaded. Luckily, thanks to the bravery of two men, President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev, war was averted.

    JF Kennedy was assassinated while on a visit to Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the murder but there has always been speculation that he was not a lone killer and that there may have been communist or CIA complicity.

    Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination 1929-1968
    Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. His leadership was fundamental to that movement’s success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States. King rose to national prominence as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which promoted nonviolent tactics, to achieve civil rights.
