    BERLIN BLOCKADE AND AIRLIFT
    this was a turning point in WWII. the U.S. was blocked off from sending anything into the portion of berlin they owned, so they ended up flying supplies in on airplanes.
  • KOREAN WAR

    KOREAN WAR
    this is where tension between soviets and the U.S. was said is where it started. this war was between north and south Korea. The U.S. took south Korea's side and china and the Sviet union took the north's side.
  • SPACE RACE

    SPACE RACE
    This is when the U.S. and the Soviet Union battled to be the first on the moon. Soviets started with the lead with Sputnik 1, and U.S. followed. after some time theyended up working together and made the international space station.
  • SPUTNIK CRISIS

    SPUTNIK CRISIS
    In 1957 the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial Earth satellite. Although it was harmless, the U.S. watched it, because the same rocket that sent it could launch a nuclear bomb at any moment.

    U-2 INCIDENT
    The U.S. sent in CIA on a plane to spy but the Soviets thought it was an act of aggression. the pilot had to explain why they had gone and the Soviets said they would not attend the meeting with france, britain, and the U.S. unless they would stop the flights over the U.S.S.R.

    CUBAN MISSLE CRISIS
    a U-2 plane was flying over Cuba and found a nuclear missle sites under construction. These missles were easily in range of the USA and it caused a fear in the U.S. so they ended up building some of there own.

    Since france could not longer control Vietnam the leader at the time decided to push for a communist governmet. He wanted to unite vietnam and he tried to do so under communism. USA joined the south and the Soviets with the north.

    The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation, commonly known as the NPT was signed by many countries like, USA, Russia, United kingdom, France, and China. The purpose of this treaty was to prevent nuclear war between these countries.
  • SOVIET AFGHAN WAR

    The Soviet war in Afghanistan lasted nine years from December 1979 to February 1989. It was between the afghans and rebels trying to overthrow the communist government. The afghan side was backed up by the Soviet's and the USA backed the rebels.

    PERESTROIKA AND GLASNOST
    On march 15, 1985 Mikhail S. Gorbachev stepped into office to control the Soviet union and restructured it forever.The words perestroika and glasnost mean restructuring and openess, he brought many democratic belifs to the Soviet Union and when he resigned it meant the end of the Cold War and to the communist Soviet Union.
