  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was something that provided political and economic assistance to democratic nations. President Harry S. Truman announced it on March 12th, 1947, and it developed approximately around July 12, 1948. He asked congress for $400 million in military and economic assistance for Turkey along with Greece.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was America's attempt to aid Western Europe. The post World War II reconstruction would have cost around 12 billion dollars. The plan ended in 1951, but it did not end up curing all of Europe's economic issues.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift, AKA The End of the Blockade, began June 24th, 1948 - May 12th, 1949. Planes were used to easily drop food and other needed resources into West Berlin. The Airlift kept life going for approximately 11 months until West Berlin was back on their feet. The planes delivered 2,323,738 tons of food.

    NATO stands for The North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The NATO countries consisted of Albania, Canada, Spain, Turkey, Poland, etc.NATO's purpose was to create closure and safety of it's members. It promoted democratic values and used security-related issues to solve problems.

    The Space Race took place in 1957 through 1975. It was practically a competition to see who would be capable of getting the first man to the moon. The Soviet Union was America's rival, and they were both on quests to explore the great unknown.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Sputnik was the first artificial Earth satellite. It was simple and small in size, approximately the size of a beach ball. It was a huge technical achievement for the Soviet Union, and it most definitely changed history forever.
  • U-2 incident

    U-2 incident
    The U-2 incident was something very tragic. A pilot that went by the name Francis Gary Powers was shot down in his plane by an air missile. He was on some sort of secret mission, but everything had seemed to go downhill.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    During the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the CIA was said to have launched a definitive strike. The invasion did not work out as planned, the invaders were tremendously outnumbered. The original plan was to strike a few Cuban air bases.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall was a barrier that surrounded the West Berlin. It prevented access to East Germany, and the original wall was about 15 feet high. The wall was thrown up in one night, and was put into use soon after.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Through October 10th through October 28th, the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred. It brought the U.S and Soviet Union extremely close to nuclear warfare. The Russian leader at the time, Nikita Khrushchev dramatically set the stakes and caused a ton of controversy.
