    Germany surrenders to Russian armies. This was a victory in Europe.
  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    The conference divided Germany and Austria into four zones. Korea was to be divided into American and Soviet zones.
  • Hiroshima Bombing

    Hiroshima Bombing
    The United States drops their first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This bomb killed up to 146,000.

    The United States drops their second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. This time the bombing killed about 80,000 people.
