The Yalta Conference was a meeting between Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt to decide what would happen after the war. They discussed the fate of Poland, The United Nations, etc. -

Germany surrenders to Russian armies. This was a victory in Europe. -
Potsdam Conference
The conference divided Germany and Austria into four zones. Korea was to be divided into American and Soviet zones. -
Hiroshima Bombing
The United States drops their first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This bomb killed up to 146,000. -
Nagasaki Bombing
The United States drops their second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. This time the bombing killed about 80,000 people. -

The Japanese surrendered. World War II ends. -
Truman Doctrine
This doctrine was a foreign policy that was made to help any country facing a communist takeover. This policy developed in July of 1948. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan offered economic aid to any European country, from the United States. The plan was rejected by Stalin and others, resulting in only Western European countries getting the economic aid. -
Berlin Wall
Berlin Wall was built. The borders were sealed between East and Western Germany. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
President Kennedy set up a naval blockade and demanded the removal of the missiles. The United States agreed not to invade Cuba.
