    Churchill's "Iron Curtain" Speech
    Churchill spoke about the division of Germany between the allies and the strict difference between the East Soviet and the West allied controlled sides of Germany. Comparing the differences as if there was a "Iron Curtain" separating Germany.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    President Truman promised to help support countries against communism. In order to stop the spread of communism.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    Russia cut all roads and rail links to West Germany as a response of the merge between French, British and U.S. territory. The people in West Germany no longer had access to food supply and were faced with starvation. U.S. and Britain dropped supplies from planes into West Berlin this was called the Berlin Airlift. This ended in May 1949.
  • NATO Formed

    NATO Formed
    Known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) formed with member states Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The NATO alliance promised to defend one another from Soviet attacks.

    Beginning of the Korean War, the war was between communist North Korea and South Korea. This war ended 3 years later on July 27th 1953.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was formed with East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union. This pact was created in response to NATO.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was built to separate West Germany from East Germany. The ways of life in the East and West were two extremes. The Berlin Wall was torn down on November 9th 1989.
  • Vietnam War

    150,000 US troops were sent to Vietnam. This war was meant to fight off communism from taking over Vietnam. After the war ended Vietnam unified under a Communist government.
  • German Reunification

    East and West Germany are rejoined as one. East Germany was no longer communist and controlled by the Soviet Union.
  • End of the Soviet Union

    End of the Soviet Union
    Russia formally recognized the end of the Soviet Union. Many country's gained independence.
