    Creation of The Iron Curtain
    The "Iron Curtain" is the boundary that separated the Warsaw Pact countries from the NATO countries from about 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. The Iron Curtain was both a physical and an ideological division that represented the way Europe was viewed after World War II. To the east were the countries that were connected to or influenced by the former Soviet Union who had not yet been westernized.

    The Marshall Plan was a program to aid Europe where the United States gave monetary support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II in order to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism. The plan was in operation for four years beginning in April 1948.

    Soviets placed a block on the allied section of Berlin. The blockade was a soviet attempt to starve out the allies in Berlin in order to gain supremacy. the blockade was a high point in the cold war, and it led to the berlin airlift. The allied response was a massive air supply that flew night and day to feed the city.

    In 1949, the United States and 11 other Western nations to formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The goal of NATO was to spread communism.

    South Vietnam was an allie of the US and North Vietnam was an allie of the USSR. The whole country of Vietnam was in battle because of this.

    It was a key event when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial Earth satellite. The Sputnik crisis was the reaction to the success of the Sputnik.

    This refers to the CIA sponsored American attack of the Cuban government in order to overthrow Fidel Castro. Though the US planned to appear neutral in this attack and declared about their non-intention to intervene in Cuban affairs, Cuba had already approached the UN with the facts about this planned invasion.

    The Berlin Wall was built in the middle of the night to ensure no trouble. For 28 years it was up to keep the Germans in the East from going to the West.

    This was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. The United States armed forces were ready and so was cuba both with nuclear forces. However, thanks to President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev, war was avoided.

    The fall of the Berlin Wall happened as suddenly as its rise. As Communism began to fail in Poland, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia in 1988 and 1989, points were opened to East Germans who wanted to go to the West. Then on the night of November 9th it was destroyed.
