    This was a revolt that was conducted by Fidel Castro's movement against the authoritarian government. This was an armed attack.

    A US U-2 plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. This was one of the first confrontations between the US and the Soviet Union.

    The US tried to invade Cuba, but they lost. Their troops were greatly outnumbered by Castro's, and they surrendered after less than 24 hours.

    This was a 13 day confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union. It started because of American missile deployment in Italy and Turkey, and then Soviet missile deployment in Cuba.

    This was the signing of a treaty between the US and the Soviet Union that basically ended the cold war. The treaty was designed to restrain the arms race in strategic ballistic missiles between the two nations.
