Korean War

It is the war between North Korea and South Korea from 25 June 1950 to 27 July 1953. Soviet Union tried to make Korea communist, but U.S. tried to prevent Soviet Union from spreading communism. They wanted to contain communism in Asia.

Election of Eisenhower

Jan 20, 1953

Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected to be the 34th U.S. president. He negotiated an end to the korean war.

Start of Vietnam War

Nov 1, 1955

Vietnam War started on November 1, 1955 between France and Vietnam. France tried to make Vietnam democratic, but Vietnam wanted to be communist. They fought for a long time.

Election of Kennedy

Nov 8, 1960

John F. Kennedy was elected to be the 44th U.S. president. Kennedy tried to treat Vietnam peacefully. He just helped train South Vietnamese.

Assassination of Kennedy and LBJ becomes president

Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, and Lyndon Johnson was elected to be the 45th U.S. president on November 3, 1964. After Kennedy was assassinated, the U.S. put more effort into Vietnam War. They engaged more.

Election of Nixon

Richard Nixon was elected to be the 46th U.S. president on November 5, 1968.He withdrew American troops from Vietnam.

Election of Ford

Aug 9, 1974

Gerald Ford was elected to be the 47th U.S. president on August 9, 1974. He ended the Vietnam war.

End of Vietnam War

Apr 30, 1975

Vietnam War ended on April 30, 1975. Vietnam totally became communist. American soldiers came back from Vietnam and they got many benefits as the veterans.
