  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    At the Yalta conference many issues were discussed as the second world war moved its focus to the Pacific and Japan. issues were discussed between the alied forces of the Soviet Union, Great Britain and the United States. The sticking issue was what to do with Poland as the Soviet Union wanted control and Great Britian and the US were opposed to this solution.
  • Marshal Plan installed

    Marshal Plan installed
    The Marshall plan was designed as a way for the United States to assist the war destroyed European countries financially. The idea was to prevent yet another repeat of what took place after WWI as Germany was tagged with so much war debt that it allowed a radical leader like Hitler to take power.
  • Korean War starts

    Korean War starts
    After North Korea invaded South Korea with the support of the Soviet Union, the US had no choice but to back South Korea and remove all Americans from the country. The War lasted for a little over 3 years and ended in 1953.
  • Vietnam War begins

    Vietnam was split as North Vietnam became a communist nation and the south fought against it along with the support of the US.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    An American U-2 plam that showed that there were ground to air missle launching sites in Cuba. President Kennedy ordered a blockade around Cuba, and even boarded a Russian ship en route to Cuba. The world held its breath as it seemed nuclear war was very close.
  • US becomes more involved in Vietnam War

    US becomes more involved in Vietnam War
    US begins repeated bombings of North Vietnam. US also adds 150,000 more troops.
  • Vietnam War ends

    Vietnam War ends
    After secret talks between US and North Vietnam it was agreed that US would withdraw and lessen aid given to South Vietnam. After North Vietnam captured Saigon the Vientam war ended with North Korea being victorous and the US on the losing end of a war for the first time.
  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    It was decieded that people of East and West Berlin were able to visit eachother, thus leadeing the destruction of the Berlin Wall.
  • End of the Cold War

    After the withdrawl of Soviet troops from Afganistan, Boris Yeltson was appointed into power and the Soviet Union became no more. After this the US and Russia continued to grow closer.
