    The Soveit Union invaded Afghanistan, taking control of many population centers. War went on for a couple years till the US got involved and helped push the Russias out of Afghan. This didn't help relations between the USSR and the US.
  • Boycott of 1980 Moscow Olympics

    Boycott of 1980 Moscow Olympics
    This was caused by the fact that the olympics was being held in Moscow and the US didn't feel safe. They also didn't wish to make the war worse by marching Americans right into the capital of Russia. This made relations worse because it showed that America didn't trust Russia

    This is a term meaning 'thawing out' or 'un-freezing' at a period roughly in the middle of the Cold War. An example of detente was when Russia invaded Afghanistan. Usually when this term is used it didn't help the relations between the US and the USSR.

    Perestroika refers to the reconstruction of the political and economic system established by the Communist Party. The term “Glasnost” means “openness” and was the name for the social and political reforms to bestow more rights and freedoms upon the Soviet people.

    The Berlin Wall seperated east and west Berlin, they were seperated by conflict of interest. The wall fell, it ended a rain of teriny and helped to build a relationship between Germany and America.
