  • Start of the Korean War

    Start of the Korean War
    The Korean War was a war fought between the recently divided North and South Korea, agreed to be split at the 38th parallel by the US and the USSR. The war started on the 6th of June 1950, when the North Korean Communist army crossed the 38th parallel and caught the South Korean Army by surprise. After the US and its allies got involved, China and the USSR also sent troops in to fight along side the North Korean Army. The fighting was ended on the 27th of July 1953.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War, known as the American War in Vietnam, was the longest armed conflict in the Cold War, and the longest war America has ever fought. The conflict was fought by America and its allies against the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese army, North and South, fighting for dictatorship over Vietnam or Communism, when America was backing the dictatorship. The Vietnam war was the first televised war, which caused great protest in the home countries of the Western Countries.
  • Hungarian Uprising

    Hungarian Uprising
    The Hungarian was a revolution in Hungry against the soviet communist system. On the 3rd of October 1956, the leader of Hungary said that Hungry would leave the Warsaw pact, falling to public opinion, as the people wanted to leave for months. In retaliation, Soviet troops and a thousand tanks marched into Budapest a day later, smashing the Hungarian Army and attempting to arrest Nagy (the President) who had fled to the Yugoslavian Embassy. The Soviets had control of Hungary again, a major win.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Sputnik was the first satellite placed into orbit in human history. Sputnik was launched by the Soviets on the 4th October 1957, and was a major propaganda win for the Soviets, and a huge win in the now named "Space Race". The launch of Sputnik put huge pressure on the American government and NASA, as people in there own country started to have doubts about who would win this technological race.
  • Erection of the Berlin Wall

    Erection of the Berlin Wall
    On the 13th of August 1961, construction of the Berlin Wall was begun using concrete and barbed wire. The wall was on average 3.6 metres tall and stretched the whole way around West Berlin, the combined sectors of France, the UK and the US, over 155 kilometres. The wall had an immediate political effect on both Germany, as the Berlin sides instantaneously went from being the easiest crossing between the ideologies of Communism and Capitalism to the Hardest.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile crisis began on the 14th of October 1962, when American spy planes sighted the construction of missile solos being built in Cuba. Over the course of the next few days, Kennedy searched for ways to deal with a potential missile in range of US cities. He eventually decided to blockade the Island, searching all Soviet vessels in and out. The crisis was later resolved by missiles not being placed in Cuba and the US taking their missiles out of Turkey.
