    Germany was split into Communist and Capatilist Parties, each with their own alliances. NATO, the Capatalist alliance, admitted WEST Germany in their military oranization, and resurrected Soviet fears of a strong Germany.

    After the Western Allies formed their military pact (NATO), USSR created their own military alliance called the Warsaw Pact. This included Eastern Europe and East Germany.
  • ICBM was developed

    ICBM was developed
    ICBM, or Intercontinental Ballistic Missle was developed by the Soviets in 1957. This was the first developed ballistc missle by the Soviets, that was capable of hitting the U.S.
  • Soviets launch 1st satellite into space

    After developing the ICBM, the Soviets used it to launch the first satellite into space. Although Sputnik was used to gather data on upper atmospheric conditions, it started the Space Race.
