  • Potsdam Conference

    On July 17-August 2 1945 the Potsdam Conference began held in Potsdam Britain. The allied conference attended by Leaders of the U.S Britain and Russia. they talked about how to deal with defeated Germany and the occupation of the borders of Austria, Poland & the Soviet Union. The Conference was also held to negotiate terms for the end of WWII, & what to do with Germany next. The outcome to this conference led to Japan being nuked, & governments of Eastern Europe being controlled by Communists.
  • NATO/Warsaw Pact

    NATO/Warsaw Pact
    Nato, an alliance between U.S, Canada and other European countries was formed. They set up an Integrated military, created bases, airfields, pipelines and communication networks. They also made nuclear weapons to use as a defense system to intimidate other countries and to threaten them. The NATO was established as a defense against the Soviet Union, and other communist countries. Ever since the NATO/Warsaw Pact was established, the world was divided into 2 alliances; the capitalists communists
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    After WWII, Japan lost control to Korea, making them a free country. The country was divided in two; North Korea(controlled by communist) and South Korea(controlled by Capitalist) in 1948. The war started because North Korea crossed the 38th parallel, and began to invade South Korea leading the U.S, China and Russia to battle, and protect their sides. By the end of the war, it impacted both sides, as 1.3 mil South Koreans, 1milChinese, 500,000 North Koreans, and 37,000 Americans died in war.

    In 1954 the Vietnam war officially started after the Vietminh freed Vietnam from the French. After that Vietnam split into 2;North and South Vietnam. The US supported South against their battles and helped them train against North Vietnam. This War occurred because after Vietnam splitted up, North Vietnam wanted to reunify the south with communism, but the U.S prevented that from happening. Due to this war, 1.3 mil Viet soldiers,58,000 U.S Troops were killed and 2 mil Civilians were killed

    An international crisis between the U.S British French and Egyptians.The Egyptian president Gamal Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal. This seized all control from the countries to get their goods from their ships that docked in the Suez Canal. This happened because America and Britain did not aid Egypt during their construction of the Aswan Dam after they promised to help. After this the Israel did not gain rights to use the Canal, but they regained the shipping rights in the Straits of Tiran.

    On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik. Sputnik was the first satellite launched into space. The Soviets launched Sputnik to demonstrate their technological superiority to the U.S. Sputnik started an intense arms and space race between Russia and America.

    In October of 1962, America and the Soviet Union had a military & Political Standoff. the Cuban leader Castro had partnered with the Soviets and installed missiles in the island.The nuclear bombs that were being installed were only just 90 miles away from the U.S. They were being put here in order to ensure security from the U.S and the only way they were coming out was if the U.S made an agreement to not invade Cuba.This caused the U.S to prepare and make agreements with countriesprevented wars

    In the mid 1980’s the Glasnost and Perestroika policies were passed. The term Glasnost means Openness, meaning that the policy was created for free discussions of political and social Issues. The term Perestroika means Restructuring, meaning the policy was made to restructure the social and economic issues and rules. These new policies were created because Mikhail Gorbachev felt that it was the only way to overcome inertia in the apparatuses.The policies impacted the country by expanding freedom
