    The Potsdam Conference was the last allied conference held by the 3 allied leaders. This conference was held to discuss how Europe should be distributed. In the end Europe was distributed part pro soviet union, and pro Britain and U.S.

    NATO/Warsaw Pact

    Nato was a 12 country treaty of western countries. The warsaw pact included 8 communist countries lead by the soviet union.The Nato pact was a defense against the soviet union and their allies, and the warsaw pact was established for Russia insurance to back it up if there was a war with America. Nato created financial plans for all countries that were members including the buildup of a strong military in Europe which alarmed the soviets making them create warsaw with the other countries

    Korean War

    Was between the South, and U.S. v.s. The North and the communists. Began because North Korea wanted one communist Korea as well as the Soviets. After 3 years, peace talks began and an agreement was made. Korea stay separated as the south staying a democracy and the North remaining communist.
  • Suez Crisis

    Suez Crisis
    the president of Egypt nationalized the suez canal. Promises of the making of a dam by the British and U.S. created tension between Egypt. After this disagreement, Egypt took control of the canal company and this made Britain uneasy, which made them take control. Soon after the occupation of the zone of the canal, revolutions spurt out causing the end of this action by Britain and France, making them retreat. In the Nasser (the president of Egypt) rose as the victor.

    the Soviet Union launched Sputnik. Sputnik was the first satellite launched into space. The Soviets launched Sputnik to demonstrate their technological superiority to the U.S. Sputnik started an intense arms and space race between Russia + America.

    North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam for a all communist country. South Vietnam was for democracy and North was for communism.U.S. troops who fought in Vietnam suffered unnecessary casualties. In the end they couldn't win the war and pulled out
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Kennedy notified the presence of missiles in Cuba. A U.S. spy plane caught a picture of a missile being made in Cuba and this lead to political conflict that created tension between Cuba and the U.S. President Kennedy created a blockade the island so the soviet union could not ship any sorts of missile technology. In the end the U.S. dismantled their missiles program in Turkey, and the Soviet Union disabled their missile program in Cuba, and the U.S. didn't invade the island.

    Glasnost/Perestroika
    In the late 80’s soviets began democratization of Russia. Perestroika, was in time of reconstructing the soviet economic and political policy. This happened because the Russian economy was in crisis and needed to be repaired. In the end, the Glasnost dramatically enlarged to individual freedom of expression in Russia.
