    Gouzenko Affair

    Was a cipher clerk for the Soviet Embassy to Canada in Ottawa, Ontario. He defected on September 5, 1945, with 109 documents on Soviet espionage activities in the West. This forced Prime Minister Mackenzie King to call a Royal Commission to investigate espionage in Canada. Gouzenko exposed Joseph Stalin's efforts to steal nuclear secrets, and the technique of planting sleeper agents.

    During the final stage of the Second World War on August 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two bombings (Fat Man and Little Boy), which killed at least 129,000 people. That was the only use of nuclear weapons for warfare in history and it remains that way. There were many motives behind this attack, but revenge played a huge part in the decision making.

    The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), also known as Star Wars, was a program first initiated on March 23, 1983 under President Ronald Reagan.
