House of Un-American Activities Committee
Because of the Cold War, the second Red Scare was happening. The US government knew that there were spys in the US so the House of Un-American Activities Committee was created to investigates disloyalty or communism. -
National Security Act of 1947
During the Cold War, the government felt we needed more security so the National Security Act put the CIA, Department of Defense, and the NSC in place. -
Berlin Aircraft
Because of the Cold War, Germany AND Berlin were split into 8 occupation zones all together. Part of the Berlin occupation zones were on a part of Europe that was controlled by the Soviet Union. Because of that, the Soviets had blockaded it in hopes of taking control of it. The US started sending in supplies rather than backing down. This lasted 327 days. -
Truman Doctrine
During the Cold War we supported countries with aid (ex. Greece, Turkey) that were in danger of becoming communists. The US had given them economic and military aid. -
Korean War
It started because North Korea invaded South Korea. The south had US support and the north was Soviet Union controlled. It ends when the Inchon invasion began. It saves the south when they invade and push the north into China -
Brinkmanship
Brinkmanship had led to many things during the Cold War, such as the Arms Race and the creation of the hydrogen bomb, which many countries had, but because of that the US had to create bomb shelters and the "Duck and Cover" phrase. -
Warsaw Pact
After the NATO was organized, the Warsaw Pact was put into place which united all of the communist countries in eastern Europe during the Cold War -

The Dwight Eisenhower National system of highways that runs throughout the US to allowed for easier military access when needed -
Eisenhower Doctrine
Hungary who became a satellite nation during the Cold War, wanted to break away from the Soviet Union but they wouldn't let them, led to the Eisenhower Doctrine which allowed the US to defend nations from communism. -
Sputnik
The Soviet Union had created the first satellite to go up into space. Which led to the race to space during the Cold War. -
U-2 Incident
The US sent an undetectable spy plane to the Soviet Union who they shot it down. The Soviet Union kept the plane and the pilot but the US refused to have anything to do with the either one -
Bay of Pigs
Fidel Castro took over Cuba and took control of US lands. The United States cut ties with Cuba, the Bay of Pigs was a failed attempt to overthrow Castro which pushed Cuba to the Soviet Union -
Berlin Wall
Soviet Union placed a wall over night to separate east and west Berlin. It was a symbol of communism which the US didnt like. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Soviet Union placed missiles in Cuba which US had a problem with since it was so close to them. JFK had demanded them to take them down, when they refused, the US blockaded Cuba which put us on the brink of war. -
Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
This treaty banned the testing of nuclear bombs above ground which allowed for testing in the ocean
