Yalta Conference
It was a conference held on Yalta, Ukraine in the year 1945. US, Britain, and the USSR met to make agreement, there was already tension between the US and the USSR because of their different ideologies, but this did not start the Cold War . Countries that have been liberated got elections. -

The Korean War
In 1945 the USSR had advance to the 38th parallel (a peace line between US and USSR). Korea was split into 2 the South and North. In the 1947 a free election was supposed to happen in the North Korea but the USSR would not allow it to happen. this resulted into South becoming capitalist which is free. and the North Communist where there are no or little freedom. When the US and the USSR left the North wanted to reunite both side and thus started a hot war. -
Potsdam Conference
It is a conference held in Potsdam, Germany in the year 1945. Truman became the president of the US and finished creating the Atomic Bomb. Start of cold war. Countries that became capitalist became liberated and countries that became communist had their freedom revoked. -
Hiroshima Bombing
On August 6, 1945, a US aircraft dropped a bomb nicknamed "Little Bomb" Over Hiroshima and killed 140, 000 people. It added fear to the people of Japan it also gave japanese a smaller liberty because in any time they could be attacked again. -

Truman Doctrine
In 1947, Truman made a doctrine to support anti-communist forces in Greece and Turkey to prevent the spread of communism. It is a policy of containment. Truman only contained the spread of communism to prevent a Hot War. The doctrine helped people that were threatened by the communist and became liberated. -
Marshall Plan
It was a 13 billion dollar plan to help the European countries that shattered in the war recover from their lost. The plan was announced in the year 1947. Countries that affected by the plan became capitalist thus giving them freedom. -
Molotov Plan
The Molotov plan was created in the 1947. It was a plan to counteract the Marshall plan so that countries won't join the US and will not become capitalist. Countries that participated, became Communist there for losing their freedom. -
Brussels Treaty
It was a treaty were if a country have been attacked all members must retaliate. It was signed on March 17,1948, where European countries Britain, France, Lukemberg, and the Netherland had signed. In response the Soviet Union created the Warsaw pact in order to defend against the Brussels Treaty / Nato if they were attacked. It added tension to both sides and Liberalism still have not change capitalist are still free while communism are still have no/ little freedom. -
Soviet Creation of Nuclear weapons
The soviets created nuclear weapons in 1949. The soviets tried to scare of the capitalist (Deterrence). But it just led to an arms race where they quickly sought out nuclear weapons. Because of the nuclear weapons that were created some countries seeked out indepence. -
NATO
It is an international alliance for all of the capitalist countries where if one country has been attacked everyone will attack. It was established on April 4 1949. Because of this alliance the USSR also made their own alliance. All the countries that is a member of NATO is free, but if one country is falling behind no one will help them because the alliance is about Capitalism. -

Vietnam War
In the start a communist named Ho Chi Min fought against French colonizer and won which caused the south to be democratic and the north to be Communist. The US started giving weapons and by 1966 more than half a million troops are there. The war was won by the North because of the help of China and USSR. It is an alliance for all of the communist where everybody helped each other. It was created in the year 1955 to 1991. It was a response to counteract the NATO. It increased the tension between the US and USSR because they both have alliance and in any time war can start. At this point no one was free, if war broke out everyone must join to fight the war. -
Hungarian Revolution
It started as a student led demonstration that became a giant protest against the Soviets. A resistance began and left the Warsaw pact. After leaving the Soviet took over and a new communist party was in. Hungarian citizens lost their freedom. -
NORAD
It was created by the US and Canadian government on September 1957. It was created to be a warning system in case of an air strike. It adds tensions to communist countries because they think that the capitalist is getting ready for war. It adds protection to the people but it does not mean that people will be free from a war. -
Fidel Castro taking over
Fidel Castro led a revolution in Cuba on the 1959. He overthrew the US supported Government. Because of the overthrew of the government, the US refused to lend Cuba there for the USSR stepped in to help Cuba. Because of this Cuba lost it's freedom. -
Bay of Pigs
Is an invasion in 1961 by the Cuban exiles that were trained by the CIA to overthrow Fidel Castro. 1500 Cuban that invaded were killed if not, were taken prisoners. This one the hot wars that happened during the cold war. The Cuban's exiles lost their liberalism. -
End of the Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban crisis was missiles that threatened the US, so they retaliate by giving Turkey missiles and blocking route to Cuba so that no one will give them support. It ended by Kennedy and Krushchec making a deal to remove the missiles that they gave and US will no longer invade Cuba. This led to Cuba getting their own freedom from the war. -
Czechoslovakia Revolution
Alex Dubcek became empowered and began liberating. The USSR became angry Warsaw pact invaded. The country became occupied until 1990, lossing freedom. -
Nuclear Arms treaty
The US and USSR met in Holsinki Finland. This limited anti ballistic missiles, lessing the tension between the two and giving more liberty for all. -
Afghanistan/Soviet war
Afghanistan were invaded by the USSR to get rid of their religion. The US stepped in to help the Mujahedeen a religious resistance. The US won and the Afghans became liberated and kept their loyalty to their religion. -

In the 1980 a trade union was formed .The country was divided. The trade Union was too strong, the communist had to negotiate and Poland became an anti-soviet and became free. -

Berlin wall Falling
It was built by the East Germans (Soviets) to keep East German from escaping. It was built on the year 1989 and was brought down in the same year. This wall was separated the Communist and the Capitalist. This meant that people from the east Germany has no longer a choice to be a capitalist or a communist. -
