  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    The Yalta Conference was a meeting between the U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. These World War II allies addressed the important post-war fate of conquered Germany and the rest of Europe. Also, they talked about the Soviet Union's entry into the war and about the comings of the new United Nations.

  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine, by President Harry S. Truman, confirmed that the United States would give political, military, and economic support to all democratic countries who suffered from the threat of authoritarian powers. It was also Truman's plan to send American military and economic advisers to countries whose political stability was threatened by communism. The Truman Doctrine effectively reoriented foreign policy of the United States.

  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was considered the first appropriation bill authorizing money. It was reported that industrial production in Western Europe had grown 30% since the beginning of the Second World War. George C. Marshall gave American financial aid for a program of European economic recovery. The idea was denied by the Soviet Union, however, this plan helped rebuild Europe.

    Berlin Blockade

    The Berlin Blockade was one of the first major global changes that occurred during the Cold War. It was an attempt by the Soviet Union to limit the ability of the US, Great Britain, and France to travel to their divisions of Berlin because they were considered within Russian-occupied East Germany.

    Korean War

    The Korean War was the first time the US and Soviet Union fought a proxy war. It is an important development in the Cold War this strategy would be a feature of other Cold War conflicts. The Korean War was between North Korea and South Korea whcih began when North Korea invaded South Korea. The Soviet Union and the United States released Korea from imperial Japanese colonial control in 1945.

    Space Race

    The Space Race was a Cold War competition between the United States and the Soviet Union. When the Soviets launched the first artificial satellite, it set off a signal in the Eisenhower administration and created intense panic for the US people because the Soviet Union had exceeded the technological achievements. The main purpose of it was to increase aerospace capabilities such as artificial satellites, unmanned space probes, and human spaceflight.

    Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War was a conflict in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. The Viet Cong (Vietnamese rebels) in the South fought against Southern Vietnam government and the United States. The Vietnam War was also a proxy war, similar to the Korean War. Even though the Soviet Union and the United States did not directly fight in the war, they did support a different side in the war and both had important roles.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    It started when the Soviet Union began building missile sites in Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union initiated by Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba. It is often considered the closest the Cold War came to becoming a nuclear war.

    Iranian Hostage Crisis

    The Iran Hostage Crisis was a diplomatic standoff between the US and Iran. It was the overthrow of Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlevi of Iran. It was delivered by an Islamic revolutionary government in Iran-U.S. relations. After he was overthrown, he was admitted to the U.S. for cancer treatment, a crowd of about 500 seized the embassy in response to the exiled. 8 Americans and 1 Iranians were killed during an attempt to rescue the hostages.
  • Afghanistan Invasion

    Afghanistan Invasion
    The Soviet Army invaded Afghanistan to prop up the communist government of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan against a spreading insurgency. The Soviet Union worried about the loss of its communist agent in Afghanistan. In response, the United States instituted a trade restriction and boycotted the 1980 Olympics.

    End of Cold War

    The Soviet Union fought a tiring battle in Afghanistan. Also, the Soviet economy faced the increasing costs of the arms race. Differences were developed while the struggling economy faltered under the combined burden. The Berlin Wall came down, borders opened, and free elections removed Communist governments in eastern Europe. Then, the Soviet Union separated into its component republics. Quickly, the Iron Curtain was lifted and the Cold War finally ended.

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier built by the communist government which had the purpose of separating East Berlin and West Berlin. The symbol of the "Iron Curtain" that divided the western countries (democrats) and the Eastern Europe countries (communists) during the Cold War.

  • End of Soviet Union

    End of Soviet Union
    The end of the Soviet Union (or Soviet communism) was mainly due to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Even though this event occurred in Germany, the Berlin Wall was widely regarded as the symbol of communism and the Soviet domination of Eastern Europe. Additionally, an unfortunate decision made by Communist Party reducing power and democratic authorities.
