Formation of the United Nations
Born January 1st 1942 when 26 countries banded together to fight the Axis powers and liberate Europe. And unlike the liege of nations the United Nations didn`t fail and they stood together and fought back against the axis and anyone else who tried to disrupted the peace. Canada was involved because they are a member of the United nations and they fight to keep the peace. -
The use of the Atomic bomb
The use of the atomic bomb- On 6 August 1945 the United States exploded an atomic bomb over Hiroshima and start of the atomic age and also once more on august 9th 1945 nagaki. Which later lead to M.A.D (Mutual assured destruction). This affected Canada because we would be wiped out if war would have broken out between the USSR and the USA. -
Gouzenko Affair
September 5, 1945 Igor Gouzenko, a cipher clerk for the military attaché, Colonel Nikolai Zabotin of the Soviet embassy in Ottawa. This affected Canada because it showed there were USSR spies in the government. And even in the British High command. -
Formation of NATO
The formation of NATO took place in 1949 April 4th This was a pact between the USA and European states that would stand together if the USSR launched an invasion of Europe. This affected Canada because Canada was a part of NATO and was protected by NATO and protected other countries though NATO. -
Korean war
Korean War -1950-1953 was a war between the communist North Korean and the capitalist South Korea. And in took place in Asia in both North Korean and South Korean and involved the UN which fought with the south Koreans and China supported and fought with North Korea. And Canada was affected by this because Canadians fought in this war and was involved because it was a member of the UN. -
Formation of the Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw pact was formed on may 14th 1955. This is a pact between the USSR and Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, USSR, and Albania. This affected Canada because it made the enemy of Canada stronger than before and made the threat of invasion more worry some. -
Vietnam War
Vietnam war- this was a war between the USA and the communist Vietnamese army and it started on November 1st 1955- April 30th 1975. And it took place over in Vietnam and was a war of clashing ideologies between the capitalist south and the communist north Canada was effected by this because of the increase in the amount of immigration because people fled the USA so they wouldn`t be conscripted by the government to fight in the war and die. -
Suez Crisis
Suez Crisis- 26 July 1956 Egyptian President Nasser seized the predominantly Anglo-French Suez Canal Company, which had operated the canal since 1869. This crisis accorded in Egypt and was between the Egyptians and Brittan, France, USA, Canada. This event affected Canada because it split the common wealth because of how Canada was angry at the commonwealth. And eventual the Canada sent troops for peace keeping missions in the Suez -
Formation of NORAD
The formation of NORAD took place 1958 to present day. And NORAD is a air defence system that is meant to protect both Canada and the USA from bombers and missiles and give warnings. This affected Canada because it gave Canada more protection from the USSR had it launched an attack. -
The Cancellation of the Avro Arrow
This happened on February 20th 1958 when prime minister Diefenbaker cancelled the arrow do to the rising cost of the project. The Avro arrow was a high performance interceptor that was meant to counter the threat of USSR bombers. This affected Canada because millions of dollars were lost and also it was a loss in the amazing technology for the time that it was made and it was a true aerospace. Canada was involved by Avro Canada which was the company that made the Aero. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
Accord on October 16–28, 1962 and was a debuted between the USA and Cuba when the USSR was making Missile bases on Cuba so they could Target the USA in the case of war. This effected Canada because Canada was in range of the missiles and WW3 was close to breaking out and causing enalation of the western and eastern world. -
SALT Treaty
There were two rounds of SALT (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks) the first one in Finland in 1972 and then the second one in 1979 in the USA. But the USA withdrew from SALT II in 1986. The purpose of SALT was to know about all the nuclear missile launchers and was mainly to keep track of how many nuclear missiles there were between the USSR and the USA. Canada was not affected by this because Canada didn`t have a say or a role in SALT I or SALT II. -
Strategic Defense Initiative
Was proposed in march 23 1983 by the USA president and was mint to focus on defence instead of offence like the USA was most of the war. And it was not possible to do with out about 10 years of research which the government did and it finally became the Missile defence agency in 2002. Canada was not involved in this because this was crated for the USA and in American and Canada had no part in it. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
Fall of the Berlin wall- The wall fell in Germany on November 9th 1989 and opened up the borders between the western world and the eastern world. Making it possible, for the Eastern world to rekindle with the Western world. And it was taken down by the USSR in a planed demolition. This affected Canada because the treat of the cold war was virtually over and the U.S.S.R was slowly falling apart like the Roman Empire. -
Break up of the Soviet Union
Breakup of the USSR- this event accrued on December 26th 1991 and was the collapse of the USSR. This was because the USSR was no longer able to maintain its ideology over the people of Russia and the places that Russia took over/ liberated during WW2 and ways of government and didn`t make enough money because they had to bring other states up with them and that cost a lot of money.
