Russian Communist Revolution
The Russian Communist Revolution started in March 8, 1917 when the Bolshevik party countered and overthrew the Russian government. After the events of the revolution, Vladimir Lenin, overthrew the Bolsheviks and created the beginning of communistic Russia. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles is the treaty that concluded WWI. Germany had to pay for the whole war, and they also took all of the blame for WWI. The League Of Nations was created in the treaty by President Woodrow Wilson, however the U.S. never took part of it because the treaty was never ratified. -
League of Nations
After WW1, the League of Nations was made to stop a WWIII from ever happening. Since the U.S. did not enter, a disagreement arises between the Russians and the Americans. -
Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference helped lead to the Cold War by showing the Soviet Union control over Eastern Europe. At the conference, the Soviet Union was given the right to control Eastern Europe, this led to the Cold War because it made the West feel as thought the USSR was certain on spreading communism. -
United Nations
The United Nations was created in 1945, to solve and stop problems between countries peacefully. This is evident in the Cold War because the U.S and Soviet Union were discussing the matter. The Soviet Union had veto power. -
MAD
MAD the abbreviation of Mutually Assured Destruction, is the hidden agreement between the United States and the USSR, to never use there nuclear powers on each other. Both knew using these weapons could destroy a big part of the world. -
Nuclear Deterrent
Deterrence theory says that nuclear weapons are intended to deter other countries from attacking with their nuclear power. The U.S and USSR, almost already knew they would not be firing upon each other. -
Nuremburg Trials
Nazi German and other war criminals from WWII, were tried in court and punished because of their crimes, this ties into the cold war because the Soviet Union and the Unites Sates differed on what punishments should be given. -
Baruch Plan
the Baruch Plan was a proposal written mostly by Bernard Baruch, it called for international organization to regulate atomic energy. -
General Assembly
United Nations General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and the only body in which every member of the organization is represented and allowed to vote. -
Iron Curtain Speech
Winston Churchill, Great Britain's Prime Minister, went to Fulton, Missouri and gave a speech warning and seeing the formation of an "Iron Curtain", and behind all of it was Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine's purpose was to counter the spreading of communism through Eastern Europe. This Doctrine also implied that the U.S. was completely against communism. Led to the formation of NATO. -
Berlin Airlift
The wall separated East Berlin and West Berlin, It was built in order to prevent people from running from East Berlin. The phrase "Iron Curtain" as this is a perfect illustration. This separated the democratic western countries and the communist countries of Eastern Europe throughout the Cold War. -
NATO Forming
NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was formed to go against the spread of communism. Years later the Soviet Union created the Warsaw Pact. -
Chinese Communist Revolution
Revolution in China when Communist leader Mao Zedong, faced off against the Republic of China leader Chaing Kai Shek, which ultimately ended up to the communists victory. This ties in with the Cold War because the Soviet Union were allies with the Chinese, and this led to a ally. -
Korean War
The Cold War caused Korea to split up into North Korea and South Korea, both governments claimed they governed all of Korea. The conflict between the states turned into a war when North Korea tried to invade South Korea to unify the two. This ties in to the Cold War because the U.S. sent troops to support the democratic South Koreans. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was created to balance power compared to NATO. If country were to attack, the Warsaw pact members were to defend each other. The Soviet Union saw it as a threat if West Germany became NATO. -

In 1957 the Soviets launched the first man made object to space. This caused the space race. The Soviets started off with an advantage because of this -
Fidel Castro Proclaims Communist Cuba
Fidel Castro proclaimed Cuba being communist, making Cuba the first and only communist country in the western hemisphere. With Cuba being close to the United States, it caused the U.S. to worry about an attack. -
The Beginning of the Berlin Wall
East Germany began to seal off West Berlin from East Berlin in 1961. U.S commanders began to make plans to bulldoze the wall but the Soviets ordered their military into the area and the plan was cancelled. -
Berlin Wall
The wall or as some people say, the “Iron Curtain” separated East and West Germany. It was built it hopes to prevent people from leaving East Berlin. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
On April 17, 1961, 1,400 Cuban exiles launched what became a botched invasion at the Bay of Pigs on the south coast of Cuba. In 1959, Fidel Castro came to power in an armed revolt that overthrew Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. -
U.S. Troops to Vietnam
Troops were sent to Vietnam to try the spread of Communism into South Vietnam. U.S. ships were thought to have been destroyed by North Vietnam causing more troops to be sent in. -

An agreement to avoid the use of Nuclear Weapons and spread nuclear knowledge. -
Apollo 11
U.S. sent 3 astronauts. This was the first successful trip to the moon, beating the soviets and winning the space race. -
Kent State Shooting
Protests broke out over the Vietnam War, as the protest grew, the National Guard fired into the crowd killing 4 people. -

Salt 1 and 2 were the first agreements signed by the US and Soviets to restrain the arms race in strategic nuclear weapons. -
Fall of Saigon
Former capital of South Vietnam, became fully communist after the war. -
Deng Xiaoping
Chinese leader after Mao Zedong, worked on Chinese economic reform. -
Pope John Paul II
Was against communism, made the USSR upset making a rivalry between the Pope and Russia. -
Margaret Thatcher
Prime Minister of Great Britain, she heavily disagreed with communism. -
Lech Walesa
President of Poland, responsible for Poland leaving the Iron Curtain and joining NATO. This helped the fall of the iron curtain and also the Soviets. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The wall fell as the war began to thaw across Eastern Europe, the spokesman for East Berlin’s Communist party changed his views with the west, causing the end of the Berlin Wall. -
