Tensions
After war, tensions between the Allies were getting complicated. They didn't agree with what to do with Eastern Europe. Joseph Stalin stepped up and started promising people their rights would happen. But the American and British leaders didn't want him to become the leader because they suspected that he would just make a pro-Soviet Community. -
Beginning
The tensions between the Allies got worst. The Cold War was for power and control. Both Stalin and Truman knew there was a war happening soon. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall plan was a way for the U.S to win over Europe. George C. Marshall gave a speech at Harvard University and said that the United States needed to help Europe rebuild. -
Berlin and Germany
In 1947, Germany and Berlin separated. But that was meant to be just a temporary thing. Berlin wanted to be independent and already had plans. -
Berlin Wall
With the whole things going on between Berlin and Germany people left their home to be a part of the other side. People would cross from the East into West Berlin. To stop that, the Berlin Wall was created. -
Korea
After WWII, Korea got divided which made became into South Korea and North Korea. It was supposed to be temporarily but it didn't. In North Korea, the soviets established a communist government while in South Korea it was non-Communist regime. North Korea attacked South Korea. -
Testing
During the 1950s to the 1960s, the Soviet Union and the United States were preparing for war. They started testing atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs which turned out to be successful. -
NATO
The U.S, Canada, most of Western European countries got together for a military alliance. This was called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO). -
Sputnik
With all the tension between the Soviet Union and the United States they have been preparing for the war. In 1957, the SU successfully launched the first artificial satellite. It was called the Sputnik. -
Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan was elected as the U.S. president in 1980. He made an aggressive move against the Soviet Union and wanted to make a missile defense system. -
Revolutions
The citizens of Eastern Europe wanting their freedom made them finally stand up. They made peaceful marches and protest. -
The End of The Cold War
The Cold war was coming to an end. The Berlin Wall was collapsed. The Soviet Union was falling apart. There were 15 separated republics, but most wanted to be their own independent and have freedom.
