    The communists under mau Zedong led the struggle in the north. the Nationalists under china's president Chiang Kai-shed fought in the south. During the war the united states sent the Nationalists 3 billion in aid as they opposed communism. The U.S. attempted to play peacemaker between the two groups wile supporting the Nationalists, though the U.S. officials repeatedly failed. Truman refused to commit troops although they did supply aid, although the almost 3 billion in aid wasnt enough.

    In June 1948, the Russians closed all highways, railroads and canals from western-occupied Germany into western-occupied Berlin, U.S. and its allies decided to supply the city from the air, this effort, known as the “Berlin Airlift,” lasted for more than a year and carried more than 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin.

Castro responded by planning a popular uprising. in 1958, batista tried to snuff out the uprising with a massive offinsive, but Castro's guerrillas held their ground and launched a counterattack and took controll.

The invasion did not go well as the invaders were outnumberd by castro's troops and surrenders ater less than 24 hours of fighting.
