The Russina cut off all supply routes heading into Berlin. The Berlin wall was biult and made living conditions hard of the allies. They had to air drop food to the people who were locked in. -

The wall around Brlin was taken down and the Russians did not bother putting it back up. -
A New Leader
After three years of Nikita Khrushchev in conrol, it was obvious that Russia was sreading Communism throughout the world creating the red scare. This made the US try to force the back into a different form of government. -
Russinas launch Sputnic I
During the Cold War the United Sates and Russians were engaged in what was called the space race. This day the Russians launched what was called sputnic I. This was the start of the Space race. -

Sputnik II carried a dog, the first living creture to go into space. -

Russian astronaut Yuri Alekseyvich Gagarin became the first human being in space. -

A wall was built to seal the Boders of East and West Germany. -
Cuban Misle Crisis
A US spy plane reported sighting the construction of a Soviet nuclear missile base in Cuba. President Kennedy set up a naval blockade and demanded the removal of the missiles. War was avoided when the Russians agreed on 28th October to remove the weapons. The United States agreed not to invade Cuba. -
Apollo-8
US launched Apollo 8 - first manned orbit of the Moon. -
Man On the Moon
US Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and Neil Armstrong became the first man on the Moon, putting the US way ahead of the solviets in the "Space Race.' -

The Strategic Arms Reduction treaty was signed between Russia and the USA creating peace between the two countries. -
End of Communism
Russia formally recognised the end of the Soviet Union.
