    Potsdam Conference
    The Potsdam Conference formally divided Germany and Austria into four zones. It was also agreed that the German capital Berlin would be divided into four zones. The Russian Polish border was determined and Korea was to be divided into Soviet and American zones. This connects to the Geographic theme because we learned how place shaped the actions and counties were divided. It impacted the Cold War because it happened at the beginning of the Cold War, which made a conflict between countries.

    Churchill’s Iron Curtain Speech
    Churchill delivers his "Sinews of Peace" speech. He declared USA stood “at the pinnacle of world power.” The purpose of his talk was to argue for an even closer “special relationship” between the USA and Great Britain. This connects to the Psychological theme because it was his view about USA and he had his opinion. It shows the Cold War because Churchill's speech pushed both sides towards conflict.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    It was an American foreign policy to stop Soviet imperialism during the Cold War. Greece and Turkey are in danger of falling to communist forces. President Truman of the US gets $400 million from Congress to aid both countries fight the communist influence. This connects to the Economic theme because President Truman got big money. It shows the Cold War because of the idea of the communist and other forces.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    It was a plan created by George Marshall, in which the United States gave money to rebuild Europe from the destruction caused by WWII. The Soviet Union viewed it as attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of other states and refused to participate. This connects to the Economic theme because of the money from USA. It shows Cold War because it created private economy similar to that in the domestic economy of the United States.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin was separated by a blockade that forced US and UK airplanes to bring food to Western Berliners, an exercise known as the Berlin Airlift. This connects to the Geographic theme because pilots had to know the direction to deliver food to a specific location. This impacted the Cold War because it helped West Berlin to survive
  • NATO

    NATO
    NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was formed by USA in 1949. This was an alliance formed between Canada, USA, and Mexico and some countries in Europe. It was a promise to support one another if get attacked. This event connects to Political theme because the western nations were together in an alliance. This shows the Cold War because west became a strong force.
  • Korean War

    The Korean war ended on 1953. North Korea remained connected with Russia while South Korea was connected with the USA. This connects to the Social theme because of the relationship between countries. This war impacted the Cold War as tensions rose a large amount.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin wall borders sealed between East and West Germany. People could not cross from either side and families were torn apart. The German Democratic Republic wanted to separate themselves from communist. This connects to the Religion theme because people with certain beliefs were separated. Berlin Wall shows the Cold War because it divided Germany into two different parts.

    US Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and Neil Armstrong became the first man on the Moon. He was also an aerospace engineer, naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor. This event connects to Intellectual theme because people learned something new and the event needed technology and other information. It shows Cold War because it was a race between USA and Russia.
  • Carter President

    Carter President
    Jimmy Carter became the 39th President of the United States. He reopened U.S. relations with China. Also, he made headway with efforts to broker peace in the historic Arab-Israeli conflict, but was damaged. This connects to Political theme because Carter controlled the United States. He impacted the Cold War because the Cold War’s brief respite came to an end during Carter’s presidency.
  • German reunification

    German reunification
    East and West Germany were reunited as one country. Once the wall was broken, people from East Germany were celebrating because they were finally free. This connects to the Social theme because two parts of a country finally became together and people were free. It impacted the Cold War because this represented the beginning of the end of the Cold War.
  • End of the Soviet Union

    End of the Soviet Union
    The Soviet Union was divided into 15 independent states. The day before, Mikhail Gorbachev was no more USSR president and he handed everything to Boris Yeltsin. This connects to the Cultural theme because it shows how country can be effected due to the certain beliefs. It impacted the Cold War because the end of the Soviet Union meant the end of the Cold War too.
  • New Cold War?

    New Cold War?
    In March 2014, American president Barack Obama called Russia a “regional power” when talking to European nation leaders at a Nuclear Security Summit in the Netherlands. After President Obama made this comment, Russian bombers starting patrolling up and down the coastlines of America. It is a current event because Russian fighter airplanes continue to harass American warships in the Mediterranean Sea.

    American view of the Cold War
    I interviewed our friend, Bill who is 58 years old. I chose him because he remembers some stuff about the Cold War. He said the Cold War was a difference of ideas between East and West. The Soviet Union was a bad country in intent on spreading communism throughout the world. It showed the Cold War because the idea of communism was the exact opposite of the idea of democracy and capitalism.

    I interviewed my mother, she is 49 years old. I chose her because I wanted to show the difference between American and Russian view of the Cold War. My mother said Cold War was a conflict between USSR and USA where each country wanted to show their power in politic, economic, social, and ideological. People were afraid to say anything about America and they did not have a freedom of speech. It furthered the Cold War by hiding the truth about who the Americans are and the peace they wished for.
