    The beginning of the war
    In the very start it began with the Truman doctrine that had the policy of containment which would eliminate soviet union imperialism and not letting communism spread so it would eventually just be limited. It was an American policy. This event represents the political gaspire theme because it shows who has power (USA) and authority.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    A plan designed to rebuild Europe from the destruction of WWII. Created by the United States secretary of state George Marshall. The Soviets declined the financial aid and said that the US wanted world domination. They reacted badly which is what led to the Berlin Blockade. This can relate to the gaspire theme economic because the US tried to give to Europe but their two competing societies that didn't work it out more due to the soviet union.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    This was an invasion from the US because of the totalitarian communist regime that Fidel Castro was ruling Cuba to be. It failed and then the US cut off all ties with Cuba. This represents the gaspire theme of social because it some what represents groups within a society and how their influenced by one person (Castro).

    This event was due to the Soviet Union sending nuclear missiles into Cuba and it was quite the missile scare. John F. Kennedy demanded that the missiles be removed and Soviet leader Khrushchev listened to his demand. The missile crisis resembles
  • Space Race!

    Space Race!
    The space race was just how it sounds. It was a race to see which country could get to space first. The first person was the Soviet hero Yuri Gagarin to reach space on April 12th. The US sees this and the President promises to put a man on the moon before the end of the 60s and succeeds right before the 70s. The space race shows the gaspire theme intellectual because this was a time when the countries were in a competition to see who could advance in their technology first.
  • Olympics

    Olympics
    This was another thing the USSR and the US were competitive in. Basketball was America's sport not loosing one game until the USSR beat them 51-50. Even though the Soviets were considered the best hockey players in the world the US defeat them 4-3 in the semifinal game going on to win the Gold medal.This event shows the gaspire theme cultural because sports were and still are a big part of culture to most countries and are very important to them.

    This is when everything was mellowed out and when President Nixon (US) and Brezhnev (Soviet Union) came in agreement to SALT (strategic arms limitations talks). This event represents the gaspire theme social because it's two leaders coming together setting their differences aside to come to an agreement. It shows their influences.
  • The beginning and end of the Berlin wall

    The beginning and end of the Berlin wall
    The wall was built by the East Berlin government. The wall was built to stop people going into West Berlin. The wall was torn down in November of '89. The wall being torn down signifies the end of communism in Eastern Europe. This shows the gaspire theme artistic because even though it was a wall it showed how the people felt during this time in the world.

    The Soviet Union collapses in 1991 but there were post war events such as terroism, human rights issues, and Putin.
  • Current event

    Current event
    In recent years Russia still views itself as a world power and has adopted cold war policies towards the west. Russia's President Vladamir Putin has also been seen to be tied to the Trump campaign and is said to have hacked the election. This current event shows the gaspire theme political because it shows who has the power and why.
  • Vladimir Putin

    Vladimir Putin
    Putin is President from 2008 to 2012 where he then wins the Presidential election for the third time which lead to people believing he rigged the election. He is currently still in office.
  • Interview

    Interview
    For my interview i asked my dad about if he could give a definition and in his response he said "It was a time period where the united states and the soviet union were in a a lot of tension and unarmed conflict. Soviet union representing communist interests and the united states representing democracy and freedom. I also asked how this war was different from other wars and what age my dad was when it ended. He told me that this war has no open conflict and that he was 8-10 years old.
