The United Nations is an orginisation that gave all 193 international states a say in major events. For example like international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace. The United Nations let the states say what they say on the subject. -

The Iron Curtain symbolized the conflict and physical boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. On either side of the Iron Curtain, states developed their own international economic and military alliances: -

The Vietnam War was during the cold war era and it was against the communist North Vietnam and its southern allies. The United States went to help the Southern allies, to make sure that they wouldnt turn to rule of Communism.This war caused more then 3 million deaths. -

Joseph McCarthy was an American politiciton that was the face of Cold War tensions. He created McCarthyism, which made many Americans worried.McCarthy accused people oof being under the Communist rule, he would ask them without much evidence. -

The Truman Doctrine is a policy that the U.S would provide Turkey and Greece with support for their econimic and military. Harry Truman helped Turkey and Greece to make sure that they would stay non communist. This was the start of containment policy, which was created to stop Solviet exspansion. -

The Central Intelligence Agency was given 46 million dollars by President Eisenhower in 1955 to have the CIA Headquarters built in Langley, Virginia -

The Marshall Plan was a project that America started to provied aid to Europe. They would give them support to rebuild their economy. Also, to prevent the spread of communism. -
Berlin Airlift
When the Germans blocked of all ways of getting supplies to Berlin. The United States created the Berlin Airlift to give the supplies the non communist country. The U.S wanted to keep Western Berlin non- communist. -
Korean War
The Korean War was between North Korea and South Korea. North Korea was trying to make South Korea true to the rule of Communism. But American troops wouldn't let that happen. They helped South Korea which showed them that they could trust the U.S. Many people thought that North Korea and American were going to go to WW3 while going through nucular war. But they agreed to go in peace. -

The Space Race was between the Solviets and the United States and it put space into the cold war. This put the newest technolgey from both sides to the test. Many people thought that this was bad because they thought that they would get bombed.This was a big part of the Cold war. -

Sputnik 1 was a satalite that the Soviet Union launched. This made Americans worried, they thought the Solviets were lauching this to drop bombs. This made many Americans practice drills in case of emergency. Also, it was the start of the space race. -

In 1959, Fidel Castro came to power in an armed revolt that overthrew Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. The U.S. government distrusted Castro and was wary of his relationship with Nikita Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union. Hawks and doves was during the Vienam War.The Hawks wanted increase military force and send more troops into Vietnam to win the war. The Doves on the otherhand, wanted the opposite and wanted the troops to be withdrawn and settle the war with peace. -

Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. The United States armed forces were at their highest state of readiness ever and Soviet field commanders in Cuba were prepared to use battlefield nuclear weapons to defend the island if it was invaded. Luckily, thanks to the bravery of two men, President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev, war was averted. In 1962, the Soviet Union was desperately behind the United States in the arms race.
