    The economic recovery act of 1948, most commonly known as the Marshall plan, was signed by President Truman . This act , proposed back in 1947, was aimed to aid Western Europe post World War 2. Over 15 billion dollars were financed into rebuilding the continent. Apart from the aid, the United States also saw this as an opportunity to stop the spread of Communism and stabilize the international order.

    On April 4, 1949, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created by 12 founding members: Canada, United states and several other Western countries. The Purpose of NATO was to to counterweight against the armies of the Soviet Union, which were of great importance at the time. It served to provide collective security against the Soviets. When the Soviet Union ended, NATO was introduced as a ¨cooperative-security¨ organization.

The war, which started in 1950 when over 75,000 North Korean troops poured across the 38th parallel and invaded parts of South Korea. The war resulted in both parties being split across the 38th parallel. WIth Communist North korea, and allied assisted South Korea.
