United Nations Formed
Shortly after the Devastation of World War 2, the United Nations was created as a result of maintaining world peace. The United Nations was founded by 51 countries, all committed to the ultimate goal of avoiding another catastrophic conflict. -
Truman Doctrine
On March 12, 1947, President Truman issued a speech the the United States Congress declaring over 400 million dollars for military and economic assistance in order to aid Turkey and Greece. The Truman doctrine is famously known because it was a direct policy hoping to stop the spread of Communism. -

Hollywood 10. a major incident which occurred early on during the period of the red scare, a time where any form of communism was feared. In this event, 10 film producers and makers were accused of being part of the communist party. All 10 members refused to testify in court and as a result they were sentenced to jail. Marshall Plan
The economic recovery act of 1948, most commonly known as the Marshall plan, was signed by President Truman . This act , proposed back in 1947, was aimed to aid Western Europe post World War 2. Over 15 billion dollars were financed into rebuilding the continent. Apart from the aid, the United States also saw this as an opportunity to stop the spread of Communism and stabilize the international order. -
NATO formed
On April 4, 1949, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created by 12 founding members: Canada, United states and several other Western countries. The Purpose of NATO was to to counterweight against the armies of the Soviet Union, which were of great importance at the time. It served to provide collective security against the Soviets. When the Soviet Union ended, NATO was introduced as a ¨cooperative-security¨ organization. -
Korean war
The Korean war was a result of almost five years of tensions on the Korean peninsula. The war, which started in 1950 when over 75,000 North Korean troops poured across the 38th parallel and invaded parts of South Korea. The war resulted in both parties being split across the 38th parallel. WIth Communist North korea, and allied assisted South Korea. -

On August 13, 1961, the communist government of the German democratic republic began the formation of what is now known as the Berlin wall. The main goal and purpose of the berlin wall was to form a division between East Germany, under control of the Soviet Union, and West Germany, in control by the United states.
