  • What Happened

    The Point Four Program began January 20, 1949, and ended in June 1958. This program was named after the fourth point of President Harry S. Truman’s 1949 inaugural address. It was also a foreign aid to help and lend money to the poor in different and undeveloped countries which marked the promotion of international development policy to the Centre of the US Foreign Policy Framework that was much larger than the Marchall Plan. The program helped Latin America, Africa, and Near and Far East.

    This program put a wide emphasis on fields of agriculture, public health and education. Throughout the Point Four Program, many circumstances occur and help understand why this program is significant to the Cold War.
    During the Cold War, the Point Four was designed to offer the nations emerging to decide against communism to become neutral or non-aligned. In the Cold War, the US government used Point Four to win support from uncommitted nations.

They also were working on economic development in countries to Communist influence that sponsored American assistance for developing countries during the 1950s. Therefore, the Point Four Program is significant to the Cold War and is hugely important in today’s history.
