Sputnik
The USSR starts what’s known as the “Space Race” after launching a satellite called Sputnik 1 into space. The Sputnik satellite was the size of a basketball and was the first manmade object to go around the earth. This started a new phase of the Cold War between the US and USSR. -
Construction of Berlin Wall
The purpose of this construction in the first place was to keep Western “fascists” away so they can’t enter East Germany and lessening the power of the socialist state. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
A confrontation both direct and pretty dangerous in its own right. It was also between the US and the Soviet Union so it’s already pretty bad. Especially during the Cold War. -
Moon Landing
The arrival of a spaceship on the Moon. Both with crew and robotic missions. The first spaceship to actually get to te Moon was Soviet Union’s Luna 2. -
Destruction of Berlin Wall
On the night of November 9th, 1989, crowds of Germans began to dismantle the Berlin Wall. The wall had symbolized the division of Europe throughout the cold war.
