Soviets tried to invade Afghanistan but they couldn't completely conquer it , and the US and other allies with the Truman Doctrine in mind, decided to try and get the Soviet Union to stop by creating the geneva accords and got the soviets to withdraw their troops. -
Berlin wall comes down
The fall of the Berlin wall signified the end of the cold war and was huge in Europe, it also meant that the communist party on the east side had loosened their reigns and allowed everyone to cross the border freely since the Soviets rule had collapsed.
