    They did this because they wanted to give the Germans at a chance for reconstruction for a democratic country after Hitler’s reign. Japan didn’t want this so they attacked America.   • Korean War

    June 25,1950 Paragraph: When he North Koreans attacked southward across the 38th parallel, the United Nations security council called for an immediate. This was ignored and they continued to fight off the North Koreans and the Chinese. When this became irratating,The United Nations helped South Korea win the war with ease.

    This happened because the Soviet was boycotting security council meetings. This caused the deaths of 1,300,000 south Koreans, 1,000,000 Chinese, 500,000 North Koreans and 37,000 Americans.

    Paragraph: America and Great Britian not to finance Egypt’s construction of the Aswan High Dam. They did this in response to Egypts’s growing ties with communist Czechosiovakia and the soviet union. They did this because Egypt’s declaration of the Martial Law. Britian and France then reacted by demanding that Israell and Eygptian troops withdraw from their canal.

    This lead to Nasser being known as a victor and hero for the cause of Arab and Egyptian nationalism Isreal regained it’s shipping rights in the straits of Tiron but, Britian lost their influence in the middle east.

  • Space Race/ Sputnik

    In 1957, after the U.S military fell behind technological wise,the Soviet decided to pass them. They tried this by building and testing the 1st satellite that was going to be sent into space. The satellite was called SPUTNIK-1, it became globally famous. To non-violently retaliate, the U.S policy makers made space and weapons programs. This caused the cold war tensions to increase , which lead to each countries’ preparations of new methods to attack each other.

    Paragraph: In 1962, after the U.S engaged in the tense thirteen day standoff on Cuba over the installation of nuclear missiles on Cuba, President Kennedy made a televised message for America to see. He warned them of the missiles and explained his plan to neutralize the threat. We discovered that Fidel Castro decided to work with the Soviets in order to develop their country. Now we faced a threat- two countries versus one.

    Paragraph: The Northern Vietnamese government and the congress were fighting to reunify Vietnam. They had to fight against forces like France, the U.S and South Vietnam. This happened because North Vietnam wanted to reunite the country under communism, and it’s political and economic system. The South fought for keeping it from happening.

  • Glasnost & Perestroika Part 1

    Paragraph: Thee Soviet policy for open discussion about political and social issues had caused some issues. This is a result of Perestroika aimed to restructure their economic and political party. This lead to the enlargement of indivisual freedom and expression in the country and gave media greater freedom to publish about more. The Soviets also made a program to do the same thing;however, this was made because their leader wanted moderate and controlled reform.

    This lead to the economic bureacracy obstructed much of Gorbachev’s program. He proposed reducing the direct involvement of the communist party.
