The Yalta conference was a foreshadow of the Cold Waar. The Allies met to discuss WW2 and other diplomatic issues. However sertain tensions dev eloped between the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. -

The U.S bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, was done without the knowing of the USSR, days before they were supposed to join with the U.S in defeating Japan. This was another act that created tension between the two nations. -
Truman Doctrine Created
The Truman Doctrine was created by President Harry S. Truman. It was created to be a foreing policy to stop the Soviet Union imperialism during the Cold War. The policy gave support, usually in financial ways, to countries under the Soviets attack, such as Turkey and Greece. -
Berlin Blockade
The Berlin Blockade was one of the first major crisis of the Cold War. The Soviets blocked land passages for the western allies to gain access to Berlin, so they came by air. The Berlin Airlift provided the U.S sectors with food and supplies by air. -
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) established
NATO was created to build an allianc between countries of North Americ a (the U.S) and countries in Europe. If any attacks from outer countries began, then the NATO members will defend eachother. During the Cold War, its main cause was to defen eachother from Soviet communist takeover of their nation. -

The Soviets tested their first atomic bomb. When the U.S found out that the bomb was creted with the help of the same physicist, Klaus Fuchs, that created the U.S atomic bomb, he was arrested. This led to the creation of the hydrogen bomb, which is one hundred times stronger than the atomic bomb. With such powerful weopons possible, the world was now in lives under aa threat of thermonuclear war. -

Southeast Asia Treaty Organization fromed tbetween United States, France, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand, and Pakistan to defend its members against cummunism in Asia. -
Warsaw Pact created
This was a reaction from the formation of NATO. It was a defensive alliance between the Soviets and Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
This was an attempted attck on Cuba and Fidel Castro by American trained Cubans who fled when Castro became leader. This attempt was shortly lived and failed. This was an embarrassment to the U.S foreign policy. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missil Crisiswas a time of fear for the U.S of nuclear war with Cuba. This was due to the presence of nuclear missiles ound on Cuba. To end this disaster, an agreement was made between the U.S and Soviet Union to have the Soviets remove their nuclear weopons if the U.S did not attack Cuba. -
End of Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was created to seperate East and West Germany. This was done in order to contain communism , keep it from spreading. On this day, people began attacking the wall, attempting to climb over and destroy it.The Berlin Wall is one of the most symbolic pieces of the Cold War. -

This was the first communist governement set up. Communists were spreading their control over the country. -
Soviet Union diminishes
Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Russia declared their independence from the Soviet Union. This demolished the Soviet Unionand ended the Cold War. On this day, the Soviets flag flew for the last time (symbolic).
