President Harry S. Truman signed to Economic Recovery Act, also known as the Marshall Plan. Secretary George Marshall proposed to aid Western Europe in restoring postwar economic infrastructure, thus the name. -
NATO Formed
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created by the United States, Canada, and several Western nations. The purpose was to provide security against the Soviet Union. -
The Korean War
The Korean War was between the North and South. North Korea invaded South Korea with coordinated attacks along the 38th parallel. At least 2.5 million lives were lost. In July 1953, there was a signing of the armistice agreeing that the country would remain divided. -

Sputnik started the Space Age and the Space Race between the US and USSR. This led to the creation of NASA. -

The Berlin Wall was a 30-mile barbed wire wall that was built right through the heart of Berlin. It was built to prevent people from leaving and escaping to the West from East Berlin. -
United States enters the Vietnam War
The U.S. joined the war for a few different reasons. The main reason is that we were trying to prevent the spread of communism. The American troops were pulled from the war in early January 1973 and the war ended on January 27th. -
Soviets invade Afghanistan
The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in effort to support of the Afghan communist government during its conflict with anti-communist Muslim Guerrillas. -
Berlin Wall goes down
The wall went down and the East and West people from Berlin celebrated German reunification.
