Political Upheaval that ended the imperial era. Brought communist party to power in China. Revolution began with overthrowing of Qing dynasty. -
Formation of the Eastern bloc
Collective term for the former communist countries in central and eastern Europe. Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Czechoslavakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania founded the comecon. Joseph Stalin started the Eastern Bloc. The Eastern Bloc alliance was called the Warsaw Pact. -

Berlin Blockade and Airlift
One of the first major international crises of the cold war. Between 26 June 1948 and 30 September 1949, the airlift delivered more than 2.3 million tons of cargo, approximately 75 percent of it in American aircraft. It failed because it was broken by a massive US British airlift. -

Was conflict from North Korea. Lasted from 1950-53. Split Korea into what is now North and South Korea. -

Began with assault on the Moncada Barracks. Overthrew government of Fulgencio Batista. Was caused from conflicts over different political ideologies. -

Iranian army-led overthrow of the elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh in favor of strengthening the monarchical rule of the shah. United States Central Intelligence Agency and the UK were involved in overthrowing the government of Mohammad Mosaddegh in Iran. Retain power for Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. -
Vietnam War
Was a long costly and divisive conflict that pitted the communist government of North Vietnam. Was the second of Indochina wars. Was fought over for preventing a communist takeover of the region. -
Bay of pigs Invasion
Abortive invasion by 1500 Cuban exiles opposed to Fidel Castro. The invasion was financed and directed by the US government. Was a failed military landing operation. -

Became the symbol of the Cold War. Was designed to keep people from escaping to the west to east Britain. Costed 3.6 Million dollars to build the berlin wall. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Brought the US and the Soviet Union close to war. Spy plane photographed nuclear missile sites being built. Almost turned into a nuclear war. -
Rise of the Palestine Liberation Organization
Was founded in 1964. The purpose was to achieve Palestinian self-determination, and securing the return of the refugees. It was conceived at an Arab League summit in Cairo. -
Prague Spring
Was a brief period of economic and political liberalization in Czechoslovakia. Was a strong attempt to grant additional rights to citizens of Czechoslovakia. The freedoms granted included a loosening of restrictions on the media, speech and travel. -
Overthrow of the Allende government in Chile
Military officers following by general Augusto Pinochet seized power in coup ending civilian rule. US wanted to overthrow Allende because they feared Allende would push Chile into Socialism. Chile was under military control because of this. -

Protestors peacefully called for political and economic reform. Were tons of series of protestors. Military units were brought in to unarm protestors. -

Came down during a press conference in east berlin. Was one of the causes of the fall of communism. Preceded by the military movement in Poland. -
Fall of the Soviet Union
The Soviet hammer and sickle flag was lowered for the last time over the Kremlin. Was caused by economic weakness, political stubbornness and growth of nationalism. Fall of soviet union caused a big shift in power. -
9/11 Attacks
Was the attack on the twin towers in NYC. Were four Islamist attacks coordinated to attack certain parts of the US. There were 19that hijacked four commercial airliners headed from California to the east coast.
