The Marshall Plan was the United States plan to support Europe to rebuild European economies after WWII. Also, to prevent the Soviet Communism from spreading. The goal of the United States was to make Europe prosperous again. -

Israel defines itself as a Jewish and democratic state. It being the only majority ruled Jewish state in the world. It was the British who wanted the Israelians to adapt the new Palestine and the Israeli said no we are our own independent state. Is were America and Britain joined together to provide food and nutrients to the people of Berlin. Thus even carrying coal and other necessities for heat and power. 1,534 tons of supplies were required to feed the people of Berlin each day. -
Formation of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Is to create and alliance if one gets attacked the others will come to aid, if it is by and enemy army. Its rivalry is the Warsaw Pact. -

Was a counter pact to go against NATO. Motive was to control military and control over Central and Eastern Europe. Which at the fall of the USSR and the ending of the cold war they had to abide by some of the laws on the Charter from the United Nations. To provide peace. -

Was diplomatically and militarily a confrontation between; Egypt against Britain, Israel, and France, and aiding Egypt was The United Nations, The United States, and The Soviet Union. With the invasion some say it was planned out by Britain, Israel, and France. Israel in the end obtained some of its objectives, thus getting to travel through the Strait of Tiran. The UNEF now, because of the conflict, guards the Egyptian-Israeli border to prevent confrontation. -

Was the first artificial earth satellite. Was launched in fear that the U.S. would launch a satellite before the USSR. Different jobs were given to universities to create the satellite. -

Second spacecraft to launch into earth’s orbit. The first to carry a living animal, a dog. Using Tral D telemetry system engineering and biological data were transmitted. The dog only survived two hours instead of ten like the plan because of stress and extreme heat. -
NASA was formed
Eisenhower founded NASA with non-military force but with distinct civilian tactics. He wanted the application to be peaceful and encouraging, for the space science. NASA shares data with national and international organizations. It was the over this time that NASA did the Apollo moon-landing. It was after the Sputnik I launch that the United States began to get alarmed about national security. -

Was the failed attempt by the CIA to invade Cuba. Defeated within three days under the command of Fidel Castro. Eisenhower gave 13.1 million dollars to the CIA to overthrow Castro, which was allied with the Mafia. -
Berlin Wall Constructed
The Berlin Wall was constructed on August 13, 1961. It cut off West Berlin, from East Berlin, and East Germany. The Eastern Bloc say they put the wall up to protect eh people from fascism, trying to conspire the “will of the people”. The wall was good to prevent emigration and defection, happening in East Germany and the Eastern Bloc during post- WWII. West Berlin government sometimes called it the “Wall of Shame”. It came to be known as the “Iron Curtain” because it separated Western Europe -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Told to be the closes nuclear conflict in the Cold War. It had The Soviets against Cubans and Americans. It was the first to be documented as a mutual assured destruction to bring peace. It was agreed that if the Soviet’s took their missiles out of Cuba, the U.S. would take their missiles out of Turkey. They reached an agreement the U.S. could never invade Cuba secretly and has to takes its missiles out of Turkey, in return the Soviets took their missiles out of Cuba and returned home. -
Kennedy is Assassinated
Assassinated at 12:30 pm by Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was then killed by Jack Ruby before he could stand trial. Kennedy was killed in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. -
USS Pueblo Incident
a. Happened when a U.S. naval ship was done sailing from Yokosuka, Japan to Sasebo, Japan. The Koreans claimed that we were in their territory, and if we didn’t surrender that we would be taken in by force. They fired warning shots and before we were taken in we claimed we were not in their territory. To this day the Koreans still have the Pueblo. The crew were taken and beaten and tortured daily, some even psychologically tortured. Two men were killed upon the first day. -
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
A treaty to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. Nuclear states are; United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France and China. Never are any of these countries supposed to have nuclear weapons, but secretly they do. -
UN Resolution 2758*
It reconized the PCR, as the representative of China. It removed the representatives of Chiang Kai-Shek from the United Nations where they unlawfully occupied. -
Nixon Vistits China
Was very important. It marked the ending of a 25th year separation between the U.S. and the PRC. Nixon was the first president to visit the PRC. Made the PRC against the Soviet Union. -
Paris Peace Accords*
Wanted to establish peace in Vietnam and stop the war. Ended direct involvement from the U.S. in the war. -
South Vietnam Falls*
North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam and took over the capital. Lead to the reunification of Vietnam. -

A groups of students who follow The Muslim Student Followers of the Imam’s Line, held hostage 52 American diplomats and citizens. They were supporting the Iranian Revolution, taking over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. This was seen around the world as a failed attempt by the U.S to influence Iranians and undermine the Iranian Revolution. -

Korean Airline Flight 007
Was going from New York to Seoul. It was shot down by a Soviet Su-15 interceptor near Moneron Island, west of Sakhalin Island, in the Sea of Japan. All passengers and crew were killed. One of the tensest moments in the Cold War. -
U.S. Invades Grenada*
U.S. victory within weeks. We wanted to toverthrow throw the military government, expell cuban troops, and abort the construction of a soviet funded airstrip. -

Was a follow-up to the boycott of the Olympics in 1980. The Soviet Union being the leader of the plan. Lead 14 other countries to boycott in Los Angeles. Took a number of events out of the Olympics because of the lack of participants. -
Chernobyl Disaster
Nuclear incident occurring at a power plant in Ukraine. Worst Nuclear power plant incident, and ranked as the only other level 7 event on the international nuclear event scale. The total deaths were 31 people during the accident, long-term effects such as cancer and deformities are still being accounted for. -
Tiananmen Square Massacre
Death toll to be from the hundred to the few thousands. Troops fired upon civilians. The civilians were trying to keep them from getting to the heart of Beijing. Where student demonstrators had stayed for several weeks. -
Dissolving of the Soviet Union
On Christmas of 1991 the Soviet would fly for the last time. After a couple days 11 soviet republics met and declared independence from the Soviet Union. Ata then declared itself independent of the Soviet Union also. Only one republic stood now, Georgia. The Soviet Union largely fell because of Gorbachev’s radical forms he had implemented during his six year reign. Although disappointed Gorbachev resigned from office and it was a peaceful end to a reign in history that was tragic.
